Welcome to The Ink Well's weekly creative nonfiction contest!

In this post, we'll announce the winners from last week's contest and provide the prompt for the coming week.

Before You Write Your Creative Nonfiction Post...

We ask that you read our Creative Nonfiction Tips post to learn about the creative nonfiction genre and review our guidelines.

Important notes:

Creative nonfiction stories are based on your real-life experiences.
We are looking for real short stories! Not advice columns, reports on crime or corruption in your city, observations on nature, recipes, religion, politics, or any other nonfiction content. Just real-life short stories.
Ideal story length is between 750 and 1500 words, but your story must be at least 350 words, at a minimum to be curated.
Please focus on quality content. Read and edit for errors! Use a grammar checker before you post your story.
We expect everyone who posts in The Ink Well to read and comment on at least two other stories for each one published.
Do not post stories featuring physical abuse, graphic violence, erotica or NSFW content.

@marriot5464	Trust Differently Sometimes in life there are some unbelievable occurrences that happen which can leave an indelible mark in our lives. At times it alters the course of our relationships and perceptions and can create this big difference in our relationship with others. It was a day unlike any other when a difference in trust unfolded which forever changed the dynamics of my relationship with my uncle.
@rukkie	MAKING A DIFFERENCE Even if my salary as a teacher is not encouraging, the excitement I see on the faces of my students and the praise I get from their parents as they see their children doing well in a subject they used to dislike is enough to motivate me to teach better and make a difference in their lives.
@cypher09	A taboo with her difference During December when Christmas was fast approaching, we had a visitor, aunty Ngozi who just finished her second semester exam in her school and decided to head straight to our house to spend three to four days to unwind before travelling to her own village for Christmas.
@lightpen	My choice of career path Whatever choice you are making, you need to be optimistic about the outcome and I am confident that I will belong to the group of people that get jobs after acquiring degrees. I think my choice deserves respect just like I respect your choice. I think we can manage our differences properly please.

A futile shot. I kept pestering my mom, threatening to squeeze into her travel bag with all amount of seriousness in my tone. At that time, I honestly would have hidden inside her travel bag if I was given the opportunity. But now that I think of it, I probably would have suffocated before we arrived at the airport.

My brother and I traded looks, reflecting our shared excitement. We had constantly admired our father's intellect and were enthusiastic to observe him demonstrate his abilities on a grand stage. Little did we know that this occasion would be the catalyst for a rift that would test the limits of our familial ties.

This Week's Prompt #38:

Time

Time is a concept. It’s a flimsy wisp of smoke on the breeze, but it’s also very substantial because it marks our time on earth and alters us physically and mentally.

This week we ask you to write a creative personal story that reads like fiction using words related to 'time’.

For this topic, there are several possible approaches. For example:

Being late for an important event might’ve resulted in unexpected repercussions.
Maybe you’re aggressively punctual and find people who aren’t very hard to live with.
Perhaps you attended an event where you had the time of your life.
Give us a humorous account of your altered perspective due to the ravages of time.

Tell us about it! And remember to integrate storytelling elements like characters, scene setting, dialogue and action to bring your story to life!
