Creative Nonfiction in The Ink Well Prompt #66
Welcome to The Ink Well's weekly creative nonfiction prompt!
In this post, we'll announce the winners from last week's contest and provide the prompt for the coming week.
Before You Write Your Creative Nonfiction Post...
We ask that you read our Creative Nonfiction Tips post to learn about the creative nonfiction genre and review our guidelines.
Important notes:
- Creative nonfiction stories are based on your real-life experiences.
- We are looking for real short stories! Not advice columns, reports on crime or corruption in your city, observations on nature, recipes, religion, politics, or any other nonfiction content. Just real-life short stories.
- Ideal story length is between 750 and 1500 words, but your story must be at least 350 words, at a minimum to be curated.
- Please focus on quality content. Read and edit for errors! Use a grammar checker before you post your story.
- We expect everyone who posts in The Ink Well to read and comment on at least two other stories for each one published.
- Do not post stories featuring physical abuse, graphic violence, erotica or NSFW content.

Highlighting @popurri, with the story:
Interview or Exam
One of these obstacles was that we had a very different point of view from the person who had the coordination of that nucleus. He was a man with a lot of experience but he made decisions without considering us and rather limited us.
Curator's comment :
Exquisite writing that'll leave you breathless and wanting more of the same. Beautiful!

Highlighting @wongi, with the story:
An Astounding View
The journey to the location was less than ten minutes. We arrived at our destination and right from the gate, I knew that I was in an amazing and outstanding place. We walked in through the gate and the gate was manned by very trained and armed security men. I did a scan and there were over fifteen of them that I could see.
Curator's comment :
Wongi writes a stellar CNF here! It's great! Packed with exuberance it moves at a cracking pace to establish a budding relationship, a fun evening out and an obvious opportunity. Excellent work!

Highlighting @zyzymena, with the story:
Soured Broth
In this real-life Tom and Jerry scenario, akin to the legendary cartoon, a small mouse like me was imparting a significant lesson to the cat. Titi removed the bed as her ultimate way of prompting me to leave, but I refused to succumb easily. I embraced the floor as my new sleeping spot and remained resolute in my determination to get back at her.
Curator's comment :
Zyzymena had me giggling with this story for the *view* prompt. Even though the content deals with a breakdown in a relationship between two friends and room mates, she tells it with such humour that it is difficult not to find it amusing. She brought the characters to life in this creative non-fiction through action and great dialogue.
This Week's Prompt 66:
"The devil is in the details"
The phrase "the devil is in the details" suggests that it is easy to overlook small aspects of a plan, idea, transaction, or contract that might cause problems down the line, so it's always best to scrutinize complexities thoroughly. The prompt offers a lot of scope to write a story based on your life experiences:
- Perhaps you rushed a task due to time constraints only to discover that your lack of attention to detail caused you to lose out.
- Maybe you discovered a host of interconnected little details that led you to uncover a conspiracy against you.
Tell us about it! And remember to integrate storytelling elements like characters, scene setting, dialogue and action to bring your story to life!
Have fun and good luck! We look forward to reading your stories.
Rules
- You have 6 days to write your story from the date of this prompt post. Be sure to check the deadline countdown.
- Write a real-life story with the creative elements of fiction, like characters, dialogue, scene setting and a story conflict.
- Post your story in The Ink Well Community.
- Please use the tags #creativenonfiction and #inkwellprompt on these posts. Other possible tags: #writing #inkwellprompt #nonfiction
- Stories must be written in English. If you've translated the post, it's best to add the original version below the translation. Do not write mixed language paragraphs.

And be sure to remember to join The Ink Well community!
