Creative Nonfiction in The Ink Well Prompt #89

Source

Welcome to The Ink Well's weekly creative nonfiction prompt!

In this post, we'll announce the winners from last month's contest and provide the prompt for the coming week.

Before You Write Your Creative Nonfiction Post...

We ask that you read our Creative Nonfiction Tips post to learn about the creative nonfiction genre and review our guidelines.

Important notes:

  • Creative nonfiction stories are based on your real-life experiences.
  • We are looking for real short stories! Not advice columns, reports on crime or corruption in your city, observations on nature, recipes, religion, politics, or any other nonfiction content. Just real-life short stories.
  • Ideal story length is between 750 and 1500 words, but your story must be at least 350 words, at a minimum to be curated.
  • Please focus on quality content. Read and edit for errors! Use a grammar checker before you post your story.
  • We expect everyone who posts in The Ink Well to read and comment on at least two other stories for each one published.
  • Do not post stories featuring physical abuse, graphic violence, erotica or NSFW content.

Highlighting @rammargarita , with the story:

Assertive decision

On March 1 of this year 2024, I had a fall when I was walking down the hallway of my house, I suddenly rolled on the floor and fell on the left side of my body, in a position similar to that of a soccer player when he throws himself to catch the ball to prevent the opposing player from scoring a goal. At that moment I felt like throwing up.

Curator's comment :

A very interesting read! Rammargarita has really been through a lot trying to get mobile again after her fall. Thank goodness she has four kids and a bunch of grandkids to help her!

Featured

Highlighting @wongi, with the story:

Conforming To Norms

At that moment, my tears dried up and I had a surge of adrenaline. I took a few seconds to think of all the polite ways to tell my classroom teacher that she was wrong and I was right. The thought of that felt like an abomination in itself but I was going to do it anyway.

Curator's comment :

Wongi writes a really good CNF piece about the road less traveled. She suffers an injustice at the hands of her teacher. It is wongi's inclination, however, to avoid confrontation. Her friend persuades her that she must defend herself this time, despite her inclination. Wongi returns to the classroom, stands up for herself, and the story ends well.
