Creative Nonfiction in The Ink Well Prompt #90
Welcome to The Ink Well's weekly creative nonfiction prompt!
In this post, we'll announce the winners from last month's contest and provide the prompt for the coming week.
Before You Write Your Creative Nonfiction Post...
We ask that you read our Creative Nonfiction Tips post to learn about the creative nonfiction genre and review our guidelines.
Important notes:
- Creative nonfiction stories are based on your real-life experiences.
- We are looking for real short stories! Not advice columns, reports on crime or corruption in your city, observations on nature, recipes, religion, politics, or any other nonfiction content. Just real-life short stories.
- Ideal story length is between 750 and 1500 words, but your story must be at least 350 words, at a minimum to be curated.
- Please focus on quality content. Read and edit for errors! Use a grammar checker before you post your story.
- We expect everyone who posts in The Ink Well to read and comment on at least two other stories for each one published.
- Do not post stories featuring physical abuse, graphic violence, erotica or NSFW content.

Featured
Highlighting @iskawrites, with the story:
How has your country changed during your lifetime?
They were correct but what could we do? The currency had been changed and there was nothing we said that could change it back to the way it had always been, whether it was an unnecessary change or not.
Curator's comment :
Iskawrites an informative, scary piece about the changes in her home country that affect her, closely.
Featured
Highlighting @nancybriti1, with the story:
A Word Called Resignation
"Mother, dear, how you left me!" -my dad shrieked and the walls shook with his crying. Dad fell to his knees like a small child, doubled over with grief, and I sensed that with that gesture the house was falling apart.
Curator's comment :
Nancybriti1 writes a very colorful creative nonfiction story. The author demonstrates her observational skills and narrative dexterity which she delivers in emblematic images of popular Hispanic American ideosyncrasy. She touches on the theme of family memory and ties a knot with it when memory conflicts with superstitions. A story tinged with the colors of the Magical Realism genre.
Featured
Highlighting @seki1, with the story:
Roadside Nostalgia
I remember then when walking that I was nearly hit by a car which was driving in no way a car filled with passengers -or even without the passengers- should be driving at all.
Curator's comment :
With a very interesting rhythm @seki1 writes a CNF in which he narrates how he travels to school on public transport that adds to the chaos of a traffic jam. The theme focuses on the conversations of the passengers who remember the good old days when there was order on the roads, as well as other good conditions. A well-written story that gently takes us back to childhood memories when problems were very simple.
This Week's Prompt 90:
Like a fish out of water
A person who feels awkward or unhappy because they are in a situation that is not familiar or because they are different from the people around them.
- Perhaps you found yourself in an awkward situation that made you uncomfortable, but you managed to extricate yourself.
- Maybe if a certain relationship didn't exist, you'd feel like a "fish out of water."
Tell us about it! And remember to integrate storytelling elements like characters, scene setting, dialogue and action to bring your story to life!
Have fun and good luck! We look forward to reading your stories.
