Creative Nonfiction in The Ink Well Prompt #99

Source

Welcome to The Ink Well's weekly creative nonfiction prompt!

In this post, we'll provide the prompt for the coming week.

Before You Write Your Creative Nonfiction Post...

We ask that you read our Creative Nonfiction Tips post to learn about the creative nonfiction genre and review our guidelines.

Important notes:

  • Creative nonfiction stories are based on your real-life experiences.
  • We are looking for real short stories! Not advice columns, reports on crime or corruption in your city, observations on nature, recipes, religion, politics, or any other nonfiction content. Just real-life short stories.
  • Ideal story length is between 750 and 1500 words, but your story must be at least 350 words, at a minimum to be curated.
  • Please focus on quality content. Read and edit for errors! Use a grammar checker before you post your story.
  • We expect everyone who posts in The Ink Well to read and comment on at least two other stories for each one published.
  • Do not post stories featuring physical abuse, graphic violence, erotica or NSFW content.

Highlighting @amiegeoffrey, with the story:

Roll the Dice

Determined to get a mastery of the Ludo game, I decided not to retreat this time, "okay, let's see how it goes," I replied with a soft tone for fear I might truly be dealt with.

Curator's comment :

amiegeoffrey writes a delightful CNF about what she decides to do on a day when she slept late and her sisters went off to the market without her. Her personality and sense of fun come out in this story in which she chooses to pull out a board game that one of her sisters usually dominates, in order to learn the tricks. But before she can get very far, the sisters come home and jump into the game with her. It's a fun story about the dynamics of siblings.

Highlighting @nancybriti1, with the story:

Once in a blue moon

Over time I have learned that it is difficult for a father, when he has many children, to show love to each one in equal ways, because love does not come in a dropper, nor with a cup of measures, it is given and that's it. Also, from experience, being the second child, neither the oldest nor the youngest, can mean that at some point love is not enough.

Curator's comment :

Nancybriti1 writes the most delightful CNF, so peppered with elegant prose that'll make your hair curl!

This Week's Prompt 99:

Barking up the wrong tree

Meaning :- To look for a solution in the wrong place or wrong manner.

Ideas :

  • Perhaps you were suspicious of the intention's of a friend, but on investigation you discovered that you were barking up the wrong tree.
  • Maybe you cautioned a family member to stop barking up the wrong tree, which led to a fortuitous windfall.

Tell us about it! And remember to integrate storytelling elements like characters, scene setting, dialogue and action to bring your story to life!

Have fun and good luck! We look forward to reading your stories.
