@lenaspiritual writes so beautifully. She has a rich imagination, and pushes the boundaries of "normal" in a short story, which makes her stories a delight to read. This story, about art that comes to life, is a complex tapestry, and a wonderful and compelling read.

Cyber-Crayons

Curator comment:

@arduilcelebren writes a really clever cyberpunk story for the crayon box prompt. Each of the different crayons has magical properties. For example, drawing a circle with the blue crayon creates a portal, and eating the healing green crayon immediately fixes a broken leg. There's a complex plot and lots of action, making this a whirlwind story. It's so creative and imaginative.

Curator comment:

@kei2 writes a fiction that is born from the nostalgia of a deceased mother and goes through the paths of conviction to achieve dreams. A beautiful story with magical elements.

Pain Thieves

Curator comment:

@alienstoryteller is very talented. This story is imaginative and fun, but with some darker notes as well, making it complex and interesting. Her clever storyline is that the crayons all have magical powers, including the ability to regenerate themselves overnight. It is told from the perspective of the black crayon, which is not favored like the others. It's a great read!

@rammargarita writes a truly lovely story. Her descriptions here are vivid. She has a kind of palette in her head and with it she colored the scenes she describes.

Fiction Writing Prompt of the Week

This week's prompt is: "Back of Beyond."

What to do with this prompt?

The expression "back of beyond" is one that means "a place that is remote or unsophisticated." Here are some example sentences from a few online dictionaries:

The Britannica Dictionary: He lives by himself in a cabin out in the back of beyond.
The Cambridge Dictionary: The public did not mind the extra inconvenience of going from the village to the inconveniently situated railway station at the back of beyond.
The Free Dictionary: His new house is really back of beyond—it will take us hours to get there.

So, this interesting idiom is one that takes us to places beyond the edges of towns, out past fields and orchards and country roads. Tell us why your character must go to such a place, or lives "back of beyond."

Tips for Getting Curated by The Ink Well

There are some important elements of storytelling that make a story stand out, and make people want to read it, and keep reading. These include:

Great first lines.
Good settings.
Well-developed characters.
Integration of action, dialogue and narrative.
A conflict that intrigues the reader.
A "story arc" which results in the resolution of the conflict and brings the story to a satisfying conclusion.
And of course, we are looking for well-edited stories that are not littered with typos or grammatical errors.
