@rinconpoetico7 writes a fictional story in which he approaches the heroic actions of firefighters. One of them, Mark, suffers a severe stroke that disqualifies him for the hard work of a forest firefighter for a while. But when an emergency arises that threatens the lives of his co-workers Mark stops thinking about himself and insists on helping. The plot may be a bit fanciful, but you can see the effort in the work of the writer and the desire to make a colorful and interesting text.

Love Lost to Time

Curator comment:

@jjmusa2004 writes a sweet and tragic love story, told from the perspective of a young woman. She is in love with a fetching young man who makes his love for her clear, but she thinks he is too beautiful and popular and she puts him off. One night, he succeeds in getting her to go to dinner with him, and that is when he reveals his terminal illness. She spends the remaining weeks and days with him, and one day she receives a beautiful goodbye letter, presumably sent just after his passing by someone who was caring for him.

Trad the Path of Musical Notes

Curator comment:

@popurri crafts this fiction into a delicate symphony in which each note resonates and builds to a crescendo. There is drama, tension, pain and euphoria and with each emotion the tones of Rachmaninov echo in the reader's head until the finale, which literally takes one’s breath.

Fiction Writing Prompt of the Week

This week's prompt is: "Kryptonite"

Welcome to the prompt of the week. For this week's prompt, tell us stories about a really strong person with a specific weakness.

If you know the story of Superman, then you know that he is one of the world's coolest, strongest, superheroes. But he does have one critical vulnerability: kryptonite. You can read about it in this blog post, and how when Superman is exposed to kryptonite, he becomes as weak any mortal human.

But wait, we're not all going to write about Superman, right? No, of course not! Superman made kryptonite famous, but now the word is used to describe anyone's weakness.

"Oh no, not chocolate," someone might say. "It's my kryptonite!"

Or perhaps at the water cooler, the workers are talking about the big boss, and one says, "Yeah, he acts like he rules the world, but I happen to know that he can't have even one beer. It's his kryptonite. I've seen him go flat on his face at a party!"

So there you have two examples. In the first one, a person is swooning over chocolate and admitting it's their weakness. In the second one, an outwardly strong and powerful person has a known vulnerability — they cannot handle alcohol.

We hope that gives you some inspiration!

A conflict that intrigues the reader
A "story arc" which results in the resolution of the conflict and brings the story to a satisfying conclusion
