A Rainy Day in Lagos

My phone rang, and she picked up to inform my sister not to worry.
Her house was warm and calm, with so much comfort as the rain hit the roof. My sleep terminated my optimistic mission of going to the International market. It was around 7 pm that Rhoda woke me and served me beans and plantain as dinner.
"Finish your meal and return back to sleep. We will just go to the market together tomorrow," she said with a smile.

Mindless People

“Come on. I dare you to smoke it throughout the duration of the game.”
Asher looked from the cigarette to Dare whose face was in a smirk. Then he looked round the circle. Everyone was looking at him expectantly, even Andrew. If he didn't do the dare, they would call him a coward or one of those slangs. They would look down on him. And he would also have to drop a hundred bucks, which he didn't have. But he also didn't want to smoke. He never ever wanted to do it till he died. He never wanted a cigarette near him. The silence was becoming thick. Then Asher broke it.

A Father's Love

“Listen carefully,” the priest continued after a brief pause. “Your daughter will die at midnight today, but there is a solution.”
Ekenne jerked as if suddenly awakened by a thunderstorm and lifted his two hands to his head. “Dibia,” he said calmly. “What is the solution?”
“A life for a life,” the dibia responded.
“What does that mean?”
“Your life or your wife's own for your daughter’s.”

After Lunch

mage created by Chat GPT and edited on Canva

After lunch, he cleared the table, but I noticed the counter where he made the juice was a mess. That annoyed me. I remembered all the lost lids, the clothes left everywhere, the consistent ritual of messiness, our arguments, his unstable temper, my broken heart… But I didn’t say anything. I just exhaled deeply as if pushing all the air out of my lungs, then decided to take a shower. Because if I can’t calm down with a shower, nothing will.
After the shower, I decided to lie down.

Mom needs a hug

image.png

I felt alone and I had no choice, only mothers can be there, no family member could accompany us, suddenly down the stairs of the hospital, a family member of a patient from another floor was coming down, just as I had heard the screams and the disconsolate crying of those women, he approached me and gave me such a strong hug that I felt protected, between my pain and my tears that person was my refuge at that moment,I felt snug as a bug in a rug.

“No no not my wing.” Primrose jumped making Leah stagger.
“Wow. This is so cool. Are you one of those cool stuff from the internet? Some sort of mini robot or a drone in disguise?” Leah’s curiosity piqued. She was ecstatic while Primrose raised an eyebrow. “Oh! You are a fairy.”
“Fairy? Oh, I wish. That’s like the coolest stuff in whimsy. I'm a resolution weaver.”
“Whimsy? A resolution weaver?” Leah quizzed.

To Not Lose

"You haven't lost. Despite how drastically stronger your opponent is, you haven't allowed it to win, you haven't allowed yourself to lose."
The voice sounded closer, I wanted to take a look but my eyes were closed and I didn't have the energy to reopen them.
"You held on. The year is almost over, just about three hours left. Then comes a new year and with it a new battle and although I can't say if the new fight would be easier or harder than this last one, all I can advise you is to not lose either.
