Johanna's Decisions

Johanna kept reminiscing, trying to recognize at what point she had fallen into the trap she now found herself in. Her life had become a pitiful prison and her cellmate was becoming more threatening by the day. She was constantly overcome with the strong desire to run away, but she tortured herself with the thought that she had missed the opportunity to run five years ago. At that moment she remembered Edgar's gentle smile at the art exhibition stand - maybe that was it - thought Johanna, the first encounters had been beautiful. And that, in a city drowning in tribulations and violence, was like getting a drink of water in the desert.

12 Out Of 52: The Shocking Result

image.png

Freepik

"Okay, come in" The teacher ushered him in as they both went in to get his result. We were eyes open and curious to see the outcome and within some minutes, Ikuku came out with a smiling face, we rushed him to check the paper result in his hand and he passed. "Ikuku!!!!" We hailed him aloud while our minds were running on many thoughts because Ikuku is not among the sharpest tools in the shed, in fact, the name Ikuku is his nick due to how notorious he is in class, he passed unexpectedly, which means either the news we heard about 12 students passing out of 52 were all lies or there must be something wrong.

A Tale From The Nigerian Civil War

“Well, wives and kids are not made for being alone while their husbands and fathers run off to war. What if you never return?” I argued.

“I will.” He placed Dare gently on the couch and walked towards me. He held my face in his hands and stared deeply into my eyes. “The war isn't going to be for long. Three months highest and it is over. I will return.” He pulled me into his arms and held me there. This time, I knew I had lost Tade to his passion. But what I didn't know was that Tade was a liar.

A Brother's Sacrifice

image.png

Judge Ignacio had been deathly frank with the attorney general who had visited him in his huge mansion on Terrace street that cold evening. He turned off the air conditioner as the attorney general said he had a cold. He had poured him a good glass of wine and exchanged pleasantries warm-heartedly. But all the warmth vanished at a certain point in the conversation.

“No sir, I can't do that. It goes against everything I believe.”

Longing

"What song is that?" I asked. I couldn't bring myself to stop wondering what song she was humming to.
"It's an old Sunny Nneji's song Oruka. Do you know it" she asked as she sang a line from the song.
I shook my head in ignorance.
"It's an old song. Usually one of our best then during Valentine's Day or any wedding ceremony," she explained.

In another life

It was inevitable to fall in love with him, it was inevitable to take off the armor I had built in my 22 years of life and let him in, it was inevitable to become his girlfriend: the first time we kissed, I felt my lips swell and disproportionately grow like a carnivorous flower. I felt that honey devours, that my belly was a sea crab, that in his hands I had all the pages to write: I felt like butterflies grow in a stomach and a volcano in the whole body.
