Voices That Stay

The voice on the phone chuckled softly and said “Sorry, I think you got the wrong number,"
Her chest tightened the more, a part of her wished the voice said her name. And there was something about the voice that made the weight in her chest double. The chuckle had a mixture of emotions—sadness and joy.
“I-I must, s-sorry,” she stammered and gave a sorrowful low laughter “I must have butt-dialed you,"

Lullaby

The applause was slow to cease when the piece ended, and the man who had listened to the concert through his cell phone began to applaud as well, completely fascinated. Noticing the sound, Rodolfo quickly pulled his cell phone out of his pocket. When he saw the name that lit up the screen, his astonishment was palpable; the connection was from someone important in the film industry. His assistant, Ramón, who had been watching him, picked up the accidental call and his expression revealed both surprise and excitement.

Encounter with the past

“Anton, I, I... I want to...”
“Forget what you're going to say. I don't care to know.” Suddenly, the memories of a painful past turned to throbbing fury.
“Brother, listen, please. I need you. Forgive me, please.” The sobs were taking over the loudspeaker. “I know I was to blame for ending my mother's life. I was never a model son. During all this time, I have had no peace, and since that day we fought in the middle of our mother's funeral, I have never been the same.”

No one ever saw me

While my grandmother was desperately preparing my bath, I approached one of the walls of the house and without anyone noticing, I began to rub my skin on the roughness of the cement. Those movements, ascending and descending, from one side to the other, calmed the itching and my desperation immediately. From that moment on, without anyone noticing, when the itch appeared, I slid down the walls of the house, in a silent and feline dance, which relieved my burning and the weight my grandmother was carrying.

We decided to stay

"Let's stay on the beach. We sleep on the sand, on the towels. We still have food and water. That's all we need."
And as if bewitched by the seascape, we all said yes, without thinking about the danger of being there alone, without any kind of surveillance.
And the night came and we stayed talking, watching and listening to the waves, reaching the shore and the sky covered with millions of stars. And we fell asleep. The tiredness, the sun and the salt peter on our skin gave us the best of dreams.
