It was a hectic, hot afternoon and unfortunately, a lecturer fixed a class. It was the kind of class we dare not miss because there would be dire consequences. I and my good friend, Luke, arrived at the hall early and secured seats at our favorite spot. In no time, the hall was almost filled up. While we waited for the lecturer to arrive, Luke and I decided to go get a drink quickly and get back.

By the time we got back, someone had already occupied Luke's seat.

"Hi, that's my seat. I would like you to move" Luke said

"I didn't see anyone sitting here when I came. So I'm not moving" She said in a rude tone.

It was obvious from Luke's face that his anger was building.

"Everyone around can confirm that I was here. I'm not the one that told you to come late. Please leave my seat and look for somewhere else you can sit" Luke replied, trying hard to hold himself.

"You're not serious. When you're tired of standing, you will go and find a seat" She replied in a rude, condescending manner.

At this point, a lot of people were watching, waiting to see the outcome of the unfolding drama.

Luke decided to leave her alone and look for another seat, but it was difficult because the class was fully occupied. So I told him to share my seat with me.

After the lecture, while Luke and I were on our home, we got talking

"That girl was so rude and annoying today. She is lucky I didn't want to cause a scene" Luke said

"Yeah, she was really rude. I heard her name is Sandra. She's kinda new" I replied.

"I don't care what her name is. We better not cross paths" Luke said.

The next day, while Luke and I stood discussing, Sandra approached him.

"Hi, we got off on the wrong foot yesterday. I wasn't in a good mood but what I did was wrong. I'm sorry" Sandra said, with remorse on her face.

Luke was surprised, but pleased with her apology.

"Apology accepted. I've forgotten about the incident anyway" Luke replied.

They got to know each other more and just like that they became friends. I watched them go from friends to lovers. They complimented each other. They seemed to be the perfect match. It was beautiful to watch.

I could tell that Luke loved her so much, and she probably did too. They did almost everything together and were always there for each other.

Then one day, Luke came to me with a frown on his face.

"Hey man, what's up? Is everything alright?" I asked.

"It's Sandra. She has been behaving weird for some time now" Luke said.

"What do you mean?" I asked, intrigued.

"When we're together, she seems uninterested. It's as if she would rather be somewhere else. She also likes picking fights all the time" Luke said

"That's unlike her" I replied

"Yeah, that's unlike her. She has really changed. I feel like she is cheating on me" Luke said, with a sad face.

"You can't really conclude on that. I think you should talk with her" I said

"I've tried man. She keeps saying that there's nothing wrong, and when I insist, she gets angry. I've tried everything." Luke replied

"You know what, you need a distraction. I can see that this situation is stressing you out. Let's go to the bar tonight and have a few drinks" I suggested.

"That's a good idea," Luke said.

We went to the bar that night. We had a couple drinks. A few minutes later, I turned and I saw Sandra with another man. I quickly called the attention of Luke.

"Look over there, isn't that Sandra?" I asked

"That's her. I can't believe this" Luke said, in shock.

We both watched as Sandra kissed the man she was with. I could see tears form in Luke's eyes.

As we watched her, she turned and saw us. She was startled like someone who was caught committing a crime.

I feared for what Luke's reaction would be at that moment. He was angry, but he was more sad. I could tell that his heart broke into a million pieces. That was a terrible way to find out your partner is cheating.

Surprisingly, Luke managed to pull himself together at that moment.

"Let's leave," he said.

That was obviously the end of the relationship. Luke blocked any form of communication with Sandra as he tried to heal and move on despite her efforts to reach out to him.
