I held her lifeless body with guilt all over me because I forced her to take a walk with me despite her Ill health.
Lucy was very friendly and loved by anybody that comes in contact with her.
She had a very nice and attractive color that makes people wish they owned her and that gave me a sense of pride.

We've been friends for 3years now and she was there for me through thick and thin and just in a flash, I lost her. It wasn't easy to digest but i had to let go.

"lulu" I called her fondly as she catwalked to me in her majesty which made her even more beautiful.
"I'm tired and I will like to go for a walk to ease my body a bit, I'll really like you to join me" I said
but she shrugged a bit maybe due to her Ill health.
I wasn't ready to just back down in her disapproval
so I pet her gently caressing her head.
I wanted to get the attention of everybody just like every other time we had walked together, people would always throw that envy look at us and that made me feel proud of myself and I wanted to feel same way today.

After a little pat on her back, she jolted up and followed me.
We came out of our compound and immediately got the attention of the onlookers and I was happy.
But it never came to my mind that it was the last time I'll see my "lulu"..

As we walked, I saw a friend of mine across the road and decided to cross over to greet him since it been a while I saw him.

"Lulu, let's go and greet Obinna my friend" I said and she didn't object.
We waited for the road to clear before we decide to cross.
As we walked half way into the big express, a car just came out from a street and ran into the express road with full speed so we took to our heals.
As I jogged alongside lucy, my phone fell off my pocket and the car wasn't far from us anymore so I had to run faster thinking lucy was running behind me.
Little did I know she stopped to pick my fallen phone.
Before I could turn back as I got to the other side, I heard the sound of tyre stretching on the bare face of the tared road with a screeching noise.
"Boom!" The car hit something but it never occurred to me that it was my Lulu that was hit.

I was froze to a spot as I saw her lying down on the side of the road gasping for air as blood oozed out of her head and mouth.
I didn't know if I should cry or move as I stood still like I was planted to the ground.
"My Lulu! No! This can't be happening" I couldn't help but to rush to her and within few seconds, we were surrounded by people who felt pity for us.
They shook their head and were talking about what had happened.
She held my phone in her hand and it dawned on me that my phone fell off my pocket as we tried crossing the road and lucy stopped to pick it up before she was hit by this reckless driver who was pleading for my forgiveness.

She looked me in the eyes as tears fell freely from her eyes. She was finding it hard to breath and there was nothing I could do.
Her whining made cry because it was my first time seeing her in such situation and it was going to be my last time to see her..
"So I'll never get to walk with my lulu again" I said in my heart and it really pricked me..
I took my phone from her and watch her slowly giving up the ghost.
The man who knocked her down volunteered to carry her home so that I can bury her.
That was how I lost my Lulu to the cold hands of death.

Lucy was such a nice dog that will never be replaced by any dog I'll buy in the future.
