New Korg Volca Sample 2

Korg has announced the Volca Sample 2.

I owned one of these for a few months. It's definitely a fun, highly portable sampler, but it was missing a few features which it seems the Volca Sample 2 alleviates:

  • The original's 4mb memory wasn't nearly enough.
  • Getting new sounds on the device felt hokey in the face that they were transferred via the headphone jack.

NOW, that said, the Volca Sample 2 now has 8mb of memory and 200 banks (vs. 100 from the first model). My obvious, and is somewhat painful to ask.... is 8mb enough? In an age where you can buy a 32gb Mirco SD card for $2.50.... why only 8mb? On the first model, I was constantly struggling to get the samples I wanted on the device because of the cripplingly small amount of memory.

Which begs the other question, why don't they just add Micro SD card support?

I love the inclusion of the usb port, over-all super fun device. But jeez-louise, 8mb.

Sort:

wow...8mb isnt going to cut it. i have one...that i rarely pickup( i have the volca bass and fm and they are both thumbs up from me). that being said, its a cool piece that i would have killed for 20 years ago!

i hate how there is such few patterns to save, so you dont wanna always erase stuff.

also, i wanna point out , there is an alternate firmware that is very cool and adds lots of functionality not in the original. also, you can change the settings upon bootup and get extra tempo controls (like 0bpm to 600, or something)

i think its a good unit, def not a toy...but the way they limit stuff so you keep wanting more/spend more is pretty tame in my opinion
