Thistles are thorny plants that are common in the Mexican countryside, some of them are covered with delicate yellow or purple flowers at certain times of the year.
In the case of the "holy thistle" some medicinal properties have been attributed to it (I'm not sure) such as containing chemical substances called tannins, which can help with diarrhea, cough and bloating.
People use thistle for indigestion, infections, wounds, and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses.
