I have been a member of this platform for more than four and a half years. That’s a very long time. It represents one fifth of my life. During a period like that, it is possible to pursue a university degree completely. Writing it down is strange. I wouldn’t have imagined everything that has happened in my life since I wrote my first post.
I make that specific comparison for a good reason: my time at Hive has been extremely educational, and as I’ve grown on the platform, I’ve matured as a person and improved a lot as a content creator.
Through this learning process, much of my philosophy has also changed. My worldview is much broader, and therefore I have seen a great development in my political ideas. I had a great ideological evolution based on my experience as an activist and a very high level of documentation on the subject in every sense.
The result has been exposed in my biography for a long time: I am an anarcho-capitalist, and Hive has had a lot to do with building my ideological foundations. While I am confident that belonging to this community was not fundamental in leading me to such a thinking matrix, being in Hive has motivated me to delve deeper into it.
The reason for this is basic: Hive is, roughly speaking, an anarcho-capitalist community. And the vast majority of people here don’t even know it or don’t take it into account, but that’s how it is. So that you can understand it, I’ll explain it briefly.
First, I know that many don’t even understand the term, so I’ll give you a definition: anarcho-capitalism is an ideological current that proposes to eliminate the centralisation of political power defined as the state, and advocates individual rights, the non-aggression principle and voluntarism.
For the anarcho-capitalist, individuals have natural rights that are inalienable and can be summed up in three: life, liberty and property. Any violation of these rights is condemned, and markets are considered to be more efficient if they are allowed to be free.
If that is anarcho-capitalism, then what is Hive? It is nothing more than a blockchain focused on offering a blogging service with a cryptocurrency reward system. Although the applications of this blockchain have advanced far beyond this format, the central base continues to be this Reddit-style social network that adds cryptocurrencies to the formula to become a visionary platform.
It is precisely the fact that we have an economy within the cryptocurrency market that first links Hive to anarcho-capitalism. Cryptocurrencies are actually a response to the total control of central banks over the currencies we use. In other words, they are a rebellion against the state.
Since the gold standard was abandoned, the currencies we use have a value determined by supply and demand factors. That is why the issuer, the central bank, has total freedom to control how much it puts on offer. This is how fiat money works, and this is why inflation always responds to the decisions of such entities. The margin where the value of a currency escapes its control is usually minimal.
This is a grave problem. We can all agree that inflation is an undesirable monetary phenomenon. That was a matter of great concern to the man who coined the term anarcho-capitalism: Murray Rothbard, and among his proposals he spoke of a return to the gold standard, or, failing that, a change to any similar standard, as a good solution.
We come to the present, where it is possible to create a scarce commodity such as gold in a purely digital format. Someone had the idea, launched the project, and the rest is history. Even with a market that today is trending downwards, a bitcoin is worth around twenty thousand times what a US dollar is worth. It is not for nothing that it is often called “digital gold”.
So new ways of taking advantage of the benefits of the blockchain system with alternative tokens are appearing around Bitcoin, and Hive is one of them. While its proximity to the anarcho-capitalist ideals of the other cryptocurrencies ends with its decentralisation, Hive goes much further.
Hive is home to a decentralised community that was reborn out of a rejection of an attempt to control it. Hive’s structure is asymmetric, not pyramidal. Although there is a leadership of users we call witnesses, who have the ability to modify the blockchain, what they do is fully transparent and usually accepted by consensus.
Hive’s witnesses respond to the concerns and interests of the community. They look after our property, our economy and that we all have opportunities to grow. But there is no a single power in this respect, all witnesses are independent and have to make sure that their investment in the platform is worthwhile. To that purpose, the trust of the community is important.
In Hive, the commercial interests of private and independent entities are paramount, but we are all equally responsible and accountable for a healthy community economy. Without a single leader dictating what we should do and without centralised laws, order prevails in hive because it is essential for the project to continue to grow and for us to grow with it.
For that reason, Hive is a way to study how anarcho-capitalism could be brought into the real world. This is a community that is leaded by concepts that have already been put forward theoretically by many intellectual advocates of anarcho-capitalism, but these could not be realised as efficiently for the purposes of experimentation without the particular elements that converge here.
What becomes of Hive’s future is in our hands. The freedom we enjoy here, to create and share with the world what we do, is unique in its kind. I am always betting on the success of this great experiment. Not only because I consider it as close to the world as I would like to see, but because we have made it an ideal home for creative minds like mine.

He pertenecido a esta plataforma durante más de cuatro años y medio. Eso es muchísimo tiempo. Representa una quinta parte de mi vida. Durante un periodo como ese es posible cursar una carrera universitaria por completo. El escribirlo ahora se siente raro. No hubiera imaginado todo lo que ha pasado en mi vida desde que escribí mi primer post.
Esa comparativa especifica la hago por un buen motivo: mi estancia en Hive ha sido sumamente educativa, y al mismo tiempo que he crecido en la plataforma, he madurado como persona y mejorado mucho como creador de contenidos.
A través de este proceso de aprendizaje, también ha cambiado mucho de mi filosofía. Mi cosmovisión es mucho más amplia y por ello he visto un gran desarrollo en mis ideas políticas. Tuve una gran evolución ideológica basada en mi propia experiencia como activista y una altísima documentación sobre la materia en todos los sentidos.
El resultado ha estado expuesto en mi biografía desde hace mucho tiempo: soy anarcocapitalista, y Hive ha tenido mucho que ver en la construcción de mis bases ideológicas. Si bien estoy seguro de que pertenecer a esta comunidad no fue fundamental para llevarme a tal matriz de pensamiento, el estar en Hive me ha motivado a profundizar en ella.
La razón de esta situación es bastante sencilla: Hive es, grosso modo, una comunidad anarcocapitalista. Y la gran mayoría de los que están aquí ni siquiera lo saben o no lo toman en cuenta, pero es así. Para que puedas comprenderlo te lo explicaré resumidamente.
Primero, sé que muchos ni siquiera entienden el término, por lo tanto le daré una definición: el anarcocapitalismo es una corriente ideológica que propone eliminar la centralización del poder político definida como Estado, y aboga por los derechos individuales, el principio de no agresión y el voluntarismo.
Para el anarcocapitalista, los individuos tienen derechos naturales que son inalienables, y se resumen en tres: vida, libertad y propiedad. Condenan cualquier violación de tales derechos y se considera que los mercados son más eficientes si se les permite ser libres.
Si eso es el anarcocapitalismo, ¿entonces qué es Hive? Pues no es más que una blockchain centrada en ofrecer un servicio de blogging con un sistema de recompensas en criptomonedas. Aunque las aplicaciones de esta blockchain han avanzado mucho más allá de tal formato, la base central sigue siendo esta red social estilo Reddit que suma las criptomonedas a la fórmula para convertirse en una plataforma visionaria.
Es precisamente el hecho de que tengamos una economía dentro del mercado de criptomonedas lo primero que relaciona a Hive con el anarcocapitalismo. Las criptomonedas son realmente una respuesta frente al control total de los bancos centrales sobre las divisas que utilizamos. En otras palabras, son una rebelión contra el Estado.
Desde que se abandonó el patrón oro, las monedas que usamos tienen un valor determinado por factores de oferta y demanda. Por eso el emisor, el banco central, tiene una total libertad para controlar cuanto pone en oferta. Así funciona el dinero fiat, y esta es la razón por la cual la inflación siempre responde a las decisiones de tales entidades. El margen donde el valor de una moneda se escapa de su control es por lo general mínimo.
Esto es un gran problema. Todos podemos estar de acuerdo en que la inflación es un fenómeno monetario indeseable. Ese era un tema que preocupaba mucho al hombre que acuñó el término anarcocapitalismo: Murray Rothbard, y entre sus propuestas habló de volver al patrón oro o, en su defecto, cambiar a cualquier patrón similar, como una buena solución.
Llegamos al presente donde se hizo posible crear un bien escaso como el oro en un formato exclusivamente digital. Alguien tuvo la idea, lanzó el proyecto y el resto es historia. Incluso con un mercado que hoy tiende a la baja, un bitcoin vale alrededor de veinte mil veces lo que vale un dólar estadounidense. No en vano se le llama con frecuencia “el oro digital”.
Entonces aparecen alrededor de Bitcoin nuevas formas de aprovechar las bondades del sistema blockchain con tokens alternativos, y Hive viene a ser uno de esos proyectos. Mientras su cercanía con los ideales anarcocapitalistas del resto de las criptomonedas termina en su descentralización, Hive va mucho más allá.
Hive alberga una comunidad descentralizada que renació por el rechazo a un intento por controlarla. La estructura de Hive es asimétrica, no piramidal. Aunque existe un liderato de los usuarios que llamamos testigos, quienes tienen la capacidad de modificar la blockchain, lo que hacen es totalmente transparente y suele ser aceptado por consenso general.
Los testigos de Hive responden a las preocupaciones e intereses de la comunidad. Ellos velan por nuestra propiedad, por nuestra economía, y porque todos tengamos oportunidades para crecer. Pero no existe un único poder en este aspecto, todos los testigos son independientes y tienen que asegurarse de que su inversión en la plataforma valga la pena. Para ese efecto, la confianza de la comunidad es importante.
En Hive priman los intereses comerciales de entes privados e independientes, pero todos somos igualmente garantes y responsables de que la economía de la comunidad sea sana. Sin un líder único que nos dicte lo que debemos hacer y sin leyes centralizadas, en Hive prevalece el orden porque de ello depende que el proyecto siga creciendo y nosotros con este.
Por esa razón, Hive es una forma de estudiar como se podría llevar el anarcocapitalismo al mundo real. Esta es una comunidad que se rige por conceptos que ya han sido planteados teóricamente por muchos defensores intelectuales del anarcocapitalismo, pero estos no podrían ser llevados a cabo de forma tan eficiente para efectos de experimentación sin los particulares elementos que aquí convergen.
Lo que sea del futuro de Hive está en nuestras manos. La libertad de la que aquí gozamos, para crear y compartir con el mundo lo que hacemos, es única en su tipo. Yo apuesto siempre por el éxito de este gran experimento. No solo porque lo considero lo más cercano al mundo que quisiera ver, sino porque lo hemos convertido en un hogar ideal para mentes creativas como la mía.
