Just keep trying man! At first your mind and your body are just trying to comprehend how to balance, and to manipulate the board. After a while your body and mind will begin to develop and understanding, and then you can more confidently put more force into the actions. Ideally you'll want to get much lower at the start of your jump, then as your expanding too "jump", kick the tail at a down and backwards angle, while dragging your front foot up the board towards the now rising nose of the board.
Maybe some of the actually good skaters can give more advice on technique, or share a good video.
