Must-have F2P Gods Unchained cards (War)

in Gods On Chain3 years ago

Hello hello, the people of Gods Unchained! It's Axii here and today, let's talk a bit about War. Roughly a week earlier, I made a post on the best F2P Nature cards that could significantly improve your deck (see it here: https://hive.blog/hive-173286/@axii96/must-have-f2p-gods-unchained-cards-nature). The post was well-received and appeared on @ocd's Gods On Chain Curation Compilation #7. (thanks to @kstreet and other curators for "letting me into the list").

I'm extremely thankful for that and I am back with the second article on the best F2P cards for War (just in time for the Weekend Ranked players using Aggro War :D). These cards are among the best options for playing Auros-the God of war and more importantly, they're totally affordable. I will not include cards from the Welcome set, so there won't be any Raid Leveler or Over-proof Brew in the list.

From this edition, I will go through the cards mana-wise, so that you readers can have an easier time reading. Special thanks to @kephler for sharing an amazing tool to list GU cards (find it here: https://gu-list-creator.vercel.app/) Now, let's go!!

1-mana drops

  1. Deadly Arsenal is a great card. At $1.15 it's an amazing 1 mana drop that asserts dominance on the board. For aggro war, a very popular archetype right now, you want to deal quick damage to the opponent's god, while maintaining board presence. This card does both of those things by empowering a creature and also increasing its durability.
  2. Auric Rush ($0.46) This is the best cheap wide-removal tool for War. You can remove protected with this card and let your creatures clear out enemy's. Zombie Death deck players will cry after you play this card and slaughter their horde of zombies.
  3. Nokkvi Warrior ($0.1) Most of the time you will find yourself playing the Slayer god power. By co-operating with this card, you have a 3 strength blitz creature that can easily trade up with enemy creatures or combo up with the enduring shield in the 2-mana sections.

2-mana drops

2 mana.png

  1. Enduring Shield ($0.77) Auros is the god of many relics. Enduring Shield is among the best ones at 2 mana. You can totally open turn 1 with this card if you cannot play any other creatures. By attacking with the relic, your strongest creature will receive protected. This can help you carry out effective trades without losing your creatures. And you really don't want to play against War with a superior board presence. In addition, you can combo with Warmonger Smith to have a 5-strength attack and hit their god in the face.
  2. Tavern Brawler ($0.97) The card is cheap, effective, and easy to understand. Blitz creatures also work well with the Enduring Shield.
  3. Bladecaster ($0.62) Its stats are similar to Tavern Brawler but the card is a very strong engine. After attacking and surviving, Bladecaster gets +1 health. If you can keep her alive after 2-3 attacks, and combo up with the Enduring Shield, she will be extremely hard to remove through combat. And your opponent will need a spell to deal with her. (keep in mind that Bladecaster has to make the attack and survive, so her ability won't work if she is attacked).

3-mana drops

  1. Blade of Styx ($0.7) In my opinion, this relic is busted. You can either clear 2 enemies creatures and let your creatures hit their god in the face, or you can just hit their god yourself with this blade. Compared to the 2-mana Ramshackle Hatchet, for 1 extra mana you get another attack with so much more potential to help with board control. If you just gonna go and hit their god, it's still 6 damage for 3 mana, I'd say it is still very bonkers!
  2. Trojan Battlemage ($0.31) Although it's not as good as the previous cards in the list, Trojan Battlemage is still very annoying to deal with. Over-proof Brew or Enduring Shield works well with him. All in all, it's a threat that your opponent will have to find a way to deal with.

4-mana drops

  1. Archangel Bruiser ($0.3) This card puts a strong unit on your board, deals 5 instant damage to the opponent's creatures almost all the time (frenzied), and has the ability to clear out swarm creatures or even a big creature with overkill. Archangel Bruiser alone is a good card already. Pair it up with Another Round or Over-proof Brew is just GG for your opponent.
  2. Viking Longship ($1.82) the Longship is a solid card. The stats are fine, Blitz is fine, but the roar ability is what makes it really great. War decks will sometimes struggle to go through a front-line unit. They will need to invest a lot of resources (most of the time, sacrificing some creatures) to get through the frontlines. This card solves the problem. By giving all allies flank, you can phase through and continue to deal quick damage to the opponent's god.

5-mana drops

  1. Orcish Elite ($0.59) Not many cards give you both Twin Strike and Blitz at the same time. If you look at Twinhorn Rider from the Welcome set, it's basically the same card that costs 7 mana just to have 1 more strength. Orcish Elite has awesome stats. It can immediately help you control the board or remove a frontline creature and still survives. Any creature buffing cards work well with Orcish Elite.
  2. Carnage Sweep ($0.56)
You are playing against swarm Nature. They have 6 creatures on the board, each with either 2, 3, 4, or 5 strength but they have one thing in common: they all are standing at 2 health. It's your turn to draw a card. Your eyes lighten up, your heart pounds like no tomorrow and your inner voices are echoing in your ears. It's the budget version Apocalypse Now: you draw into Carnage Sweep. You feel relieved, you tell yourself the game is still winnable and it's your time to do a comeback. But then, your face darkens as you realize the mana situation: you're at turn 3 and you've used all your mana pips. Oh well!! :D

Conclusion
These War cards are my favorites when it comes to budget cards with good value. You may have your own selection of cards that are totally different from mine. That's absolutely fine. Please treat this article as a reference to your deckbuilding and experiment with them if you want. Thanks for reading and as usual, I hope my experience helps at least one of you. Till next time folks!

Glad my tool was of use! I agree with most of your list and think they are great cards except Deadly Arsenal, which I feel is a little weak as a card given how many other good cards there are within the War faction. Nevertheless, great job, I think newer players can form a reliable core for their War decks with the cards you mentioned.

Thanks for your opinion. Yes, these cards could be more useful towards newer players, I forgot to specifically mention that. With so many aggro war players right now I think these suggestions could help them with the game. And thanks for the tool. I hope more people find out about it, use it and credit you when needed. Cheers!

Good work my bud!

Thank you so much!
