If there’s one question that always comes up when we talk about Gods Unchained, it's even on Reddit GodsUnchained.
Do I need an expensive deck to play well?
Can I win against other players without making a big investment?
And when I say play well, I’m not just talking about logging in, playing a match, and leaving. I mean climbing the ranks, earning some rewards, and feeling like you’re actually progressing in the game.
Well, if you’re expecting a short and direct answer...
Not necessarily.
But, as nothing in life is that simple, let me explain better.
In my opinion, Gods Unchained is one of the best blockchain card games out there. (Sorry, Splinterlands and company.) And I don’t say this just because of its well-thought-out gameplay, but because it’s actually possible to progress and have fun without spending a fortune.
Of course, if you want to build that premium deck with legendary cards shining on your screen, it will cost you. But do you really need to?
I’m not a hardcore player myself.
Between writing content on Hive and playing a few matches here and there, I usually play around 5 to 10 games per week. Even so, I manage to maintain a respectable ranking for my collection. And by respectable, I mean Auric Gold (Tier 9). It's a decent rank not among the world’s best, but I’m not just getting beaten every match either.
So, how did I get there without an expensive deck? The answer lies in understanding the game and making smart choices.
Knowing Which Cards Really Matter
Not all expensive cards are essential, and not all cheap cards are useless.
Some common and rare cards can have a huge impact when used in the right deck.
Sometimes, a deck full of legendaries might look strong, but if it lacks synergy, it’s just a bunch of flashy cards with no real function.
The key is to understand the meta, test different combinations, and find a deck that works well for your playstyle. Often, small adjustments make a massive difference.
I’ve tried several times to play with a Magic Deck composition. I admire those who can play it well it’s interesting, but it’s mostly focused on Control and long matches.
I personally prefer AGGRO mode.

Starter Packs and Core Packs Are Worth It
The starter decks that the game offers aren’t the best, but they’re good for learning mechanics and starting to test strategies.
And with patience, you can get better cards without spending a dime. The game itself rewards players with card packs, and you can build a decent deck just from that.
Additionally, some of the cards you get early on can be surprisingly good when combined with others. I’ve seen many players climb the ranks just by optimizing what they already have.
I initially enjoyed the Death Deck a lot it was one of my favorites because of its sacrifice mechanics, where you use your own cards strategically.
Strategy Beats Price (Not Completely, or That Would Punish Investors)
Sometimes, a well-built mid-cost deck can go head-to-head with expensive but poorly planned decks. Knowing how and when to play each card is a huge advantage. Understanding when to hold onto a spell, when to use your God Power, and how to predict your opponent’s moves makes all the difference.
Experience is key here.
If you study the game a bit and watch some experienced players, you can improve significantly without spending anything.

So, back to the original question.
No, you don’t need an expensive deck to play well and climb the ranks.
Of course, a deck full of legendary and meta cards makes things easier, but it’s not an absolute requirement to reach a decent or even high rank. What really matters is understanding the game, building a balanced deck, and, most importantly, playing with strategy.
If you’re just starting out, don’t stress about not having the best cards. Play with what you have, learn the mechanics, follow the meta, and gradually build a strong deck without having to sell a kidney.

Preciso de um deck caro para jogar bem?
Eu consigo vencer outros jogadores sem um investimento alto?
E quando eu digo jogar bem, não estou falando de só logar, fazer uma partida e sair. Estou falando de subir no ranking, conseguir algumas recompensas e sentir que você está realmente progredindo no jogo é claro.
Bom, se você está esperando uma resposta curta e direta.
Não necessariamente.
Mas como nada na vida é tão simples, deixa eu explicar melhor.
Gods Unchained é, na minha opinião, um dos melhores jogos de cartas em blockchain que existem. (Desculpa aí, Splinterlands e companhia). E eu não digo isso só porque tem uma jogabilidade bem pensada, mas porque realmente é possível evoluir e se divertir sem precisar gastar uma fortuna. Claro, se você quiser montar aquele deck premium de respeito, cheio de cartas lendárias brilhando na tela, isso vai custar caro. Mas será que precisa mesmo?
Eu mesmo não sou um jogador hardcore.
Entre escrever uns conteúdos na Hive e fazer umas partidas aqui e ali, meu ritmo fica na casa dos 5 a 10 jogos por semana. Ainda assim, consigo me manter em um ranking respeitável para minha coleção. E por respeitável, eu digo Auric Gold (Tier 9). É um ranking bacana, não estou entre os melhores do mundo, mas também não fico só apanhando no jogo.
Então, como cheguei lá sem precisar de um deck caríssimo? A resposta está no entendimento do jogo e nas escolhas inteligentes.
Saber quais cartas realmente importam
Nem todas as cartas caras são essenciais, e nem todas as cartas baratas são inúteis.
Algumas cartas comuns e raras podem ter um impacto enorme se usadas no deck certo.
Às vezes, aquele deck cheio de lendárias pode parecer forte, mas se não tiver sinergia, vai ser só um monte de cartas bonitas sem função real.
O segredo é entender o meta, testar diferentes combinações e encontrar um deck que funcione bem para seu estilo de jogo. Muitas vezes, pequenos ajustes fazem uma diferença enorme.
Eu já tentei diversas vezes jogar com composição Deck Mágico, eu admiro quem consegue, ele é interessante, mas em sua maioria ele é focado para o Control e para partidas longas.
Eu já prefiro o modo AGGRO.

Pacotes iniciantes e Core Pack são interessantes
Os decks iniciais que o jogo oferece não são os melhores, mas servem para aprender as mecânicas e começar a testar estratégias.
E, com paciência, dá para conseguir algumas cartas melhores sem gastar nada. A própria progressão do jogo recompensa os jogadores com pacotes de cartas, e dá para construir um deck decente só com isso.
Além disso, algumas cartas que você ganha no começo podem ser surpreendentemente boas quando combinadas com outras. Já vi muita gente subindo de ranking apenas otimizando o que já tem.
Eu comecei apreciando bastante o Death Deck, era uns dos meus favoritos pela sua mecânica de "sacrifico" das suas próprias cartas.
Estratégia supera preço (Não totalmente, ou isso seria uma punição para quem investe)
Às vezes, um deck de médio custo bem montado pode bater de frente com decks caros mal planejados. O conhecimento sobre como e quando jogar cada carta é um diferencial absurdo. Saber quando segurar um feitiço, quando usar sua God Power e como prever os movimentos do adversário faz toda a diferença.
A experiência aqui conta muito.
Se você estudar um pouco o jogo e assistir algumas partidas de jogadores experientes, já consegue melhorar bastante sem precisar gastar nada.

Não, você não precisa de um deck caríssimo para jogar bem e subir no ranking.
Claro, um deck cheio de lendárias e cartas META facilita as coisas, mas não é um requisito absoluto para chegar em um rank mediano ou até mais alto. O que importa é entender o jogo, construir um deck equilibrado e, acima de tudo, jogar com estratégia.
Se você está começando agora, não se desespere por não ter as melhores cartas. Jogue com o que tem, aprenda as mecânicas, acompanhe o meta e, aos poucos, você vai construindo um deck forte sem precisar vender um rim para isso.
