Spending some more time on Reddit because, of course, where else would I be on a Friday?
What started as a quick look at discussions about Gods Unchained turned into yet another full session of reading strange debates. I've mentioned here before how the use of AI-generated art in the game isn’t as big of a deal as some make it out to be. After all, if it speeds up the release of new cards and allows the devs to focus on other aspects of the game, then there’s a real benefit to it. But anyway, that’s not today’s topic.

What caught my attention was a new player coming in and asking the classic question in any #Play2Earn.
"How much real money have you guys made playing this game?"
And, as always, the responses were a mix of valuable tips, discouragement, and that famous touch of hate that’s never missing.
But the gem of the day was this one:
"You won’t make any. The cards have dropped a lot in value because the whales know the game is weak, dead, and trying to get out. Most people are trying to leave, so cards are being sold for a fraction of what they were worth just a few months ago. That’s why the player base dropped from supposedly 80,000 players in 2022 to around 600 today. Seriously, don’t waste your time, the developers ruined this game by releasing overpowered cards to make bad players better."
Classic frustrated take.
But does it hold any truth?
The reality is that every blockchain game economy goes through cycles, and Gods Unchained is no exception.
I’ve played several games of this kind, like Splinterlands, dCity, Sunflower Lands, and, of course, Gods Unchained.
One thing I’ve learned over the years is that if you enter a game expecting a quick return on investment, disappointment is almost certain.
The logic is simple: if you’re not playing for the game itself but just for profit, any negative market fluctuation will feel like a disaster. I’ve fallen into this trap myself. I bought cards in these games thinking I’d make a return soon, but the truth is that gaining an advantage in these games requires patience and strategy. In Gods Unchained, for example, higher tiers guarantee better rewards, both in card packs and $GODS tokens.
This means that in the long run, those who actually play and improve their skills have a better chance of profiting than those who are just trying to sell quickly.
The problem with people who get into it just for the money is that crypto market volatility can be brutal.
Today, a good card might be worth $1; tomorrow, 50 cents. That doesn’t mean the game is dead it just means the economy adjusts according to demand. People come and go all the time some get tired, others see opportunities.
In the end, those who play for fun and accumulate good cards over time are the real winners.

"Você não fará nenhuma. Os cards caíram muito em valor porque as baleias sabem que o jogo é fraco, morto e está tentando sair. A maioria das pessoas está tentando sair, então os cards são vendidos por uma fração do que eram avaliados há apenas alguns meses. Daí porque a base de jogadores passou de 80.000 jogadores supostamente em 2022 para cerca de 600 hoje. Sério, não perca seu tempo, os desenvolvedores arruinaram esse jogo ao lançar cartas superpoderosas para tornar as pessoas que não sabem jogar bem melhor."
Clássico de alguém frustrado.
Mas será que tem fundamento?
A verdade é que toda economia de jogo blockchain passa por ciclos, e Gods Unchained não é exceção.
Eu já joguei vários jogos desse tipo, como Splinterlands, dCity, Sunflower Lands e, claro, Gods Unchained.
Uma coisa que percebi nesses anos é que se você entra num jogo apenas esperando recuperar investimento rapidamente, a decepção é quase certa.
A lógica é simples, se você não está jogando pelo jogo, mas apenas pelo lucro, qualquer oscilação negativa no mercado vai parecer um desastre. Eu mesmo já caí nessa armadilha. Comprei cartas nos jogos citados achando que logo teria um retorno, mas a verdade é que levar vantagem nesses jogos exige paciência e estratégia. Em Gods Unchained, por exemplo, tiers mais altos garantem melhores recompensas, tanto em pacotes de cartas quanto em tokens $GODS.
Isso significa que a longo prazo, quem realmente joga e melhora suas habilidades tem mais chances de sair no lucro do que quem só está tentando vender rápido.
O problema de quem entra apenas pelo dinheiro é que a volatilidade do mercado cripto pode ser cruel.
