Hey GU fam! Two recent happenings made me realize just how special and unique our GU community is, and why getting involved early has allowed for making some incredible connections to those creating the game as well as others playing the game from all over this world!
The first was the Developer head-to-head play-day, which was an awesome event organized within the Gods Unchained discord channel (you can join from this link: https://discord.com/invite/godsunchained)!
The Developer play-day was a 2 hour event organized by the GU/Immutable team to give us the chance to face the game developers head to head and try to beat them at their own game! They definitely know the cards, the game, and the strategy better than any of us (considering the literally created it all lol), so it was an awesome opportunity to have some fun and see if we could beat them at their own game....literally!
It was a bit wild, because everyone wanted to play against the Devs and there were only so many matches to go around, but they were awesome on Discord about making sure everyone had a chance to play a Dev. After 21 match attempts where I ended up getting connected to other players (but not Devs), I finally got my matchup…against Yawgmoth, who is a Game Design Dev! Considering he literally designs the game we’re playing, I knew I’d be in for a tough matchup, but I was excited to see what he threw my way. Now, in that excitement I don’t even remember what happened to the screenshots I took of the actual gameplay, which is why I unfortunately do not have them to share. Super bummed about that. However, in an absolutely epic battle, I had Yawgmoth down to 2 health points, while I sat at 19 when he pulled an incredible play dealing one damage point to my God for each creature on the board. There were 9 creatures on the board, so I dropped to 10 health points, but still felt good. But then he pulled the card again….on the SAME TURN. Haha I was so stressed as I watched myself lose another 9 health points and drop my God down to only 1 health point remaining. However, that was where the damage ended, and with my four creatures that I had left on the board, I was able to get my 2 damage points in on his God and grab my victory….with only 1 health point left! It was absolutely wild, as you can see from our reactions on Discord after the battle ended as we laughed about the 1 dwindling health point that saved me in the end! Grateful to at least have this screenshot to share with y’all!
All in all, I was so appreciative, because the Devs are busy making this game such an incredible experience for us already, and then on top of that to make time to play against us was pretty cool. They also were all super friendly and inviting, and that goes a long way building trust and excitement within the community. I’m grateful for the cool opportunity this Dev play-day gave, and I hope we can have more in the future!
Finally, the second occurrence was that literally only 1 day after connecting with @acidyo here on Hive, I was playing GU and lo and behold my opponent popped up as none other….than @acidyo! Thought I was in good shape at the point of this screenshot, but then he absolutely rocked me haha.
It was absolutely wild, and we traded a few messages on Discord afterwards about the fact. The opportunity to connect between different blockchain based platforms, all while growing our GU community is pretty cool to see, and this was another example of how successfully that process is coming along as GU continues to grow.
So stoked to see what the future holds, and good luck to everyone in Weekend Ranked! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!

Indeed, I think it's fantastic that we normal players get to play the game designers - it shows that they care about the playerbase. I managed to play Yawgmoth as well even though it was just some random matching during the week and I thought his deck was pretty fire. 😄
It's nice how much the GU team listens and interacts with their community, hope they don't lose that in the long run.
Also don't remember having played you 😅 some times I forget to check ingame names.
