Introduction

This week’s quest is much more restrictive in that you can’t even use Core or Welcome cards, which makes it much harder to create a good deck due to the strong spells that come with the Core set. I had a couple of ideas going into this, and one of them was a gimped Zombie deck as most of the Zombie cards are from Divine Order. Blight Bomb and a couple of staple 2-mana creatures that are from the Core set is what gimps this deck.

I decided on playing a deck that no one has seen in a while, which I thought was a little creative… it’s an Atlantean Deception deck combined with some Hidden Aggro elements. How did it do? Well let’s just say I failed hard haha.

The deck has some early removal and creatures but the main attractions are the higher mana Atlantleans which have good synergy with each other. Getting a Boost Walker on a Spiral Golem is 10 damage to the face which you can hide with your God Power after. Smoke Bomb also allows more hiding and thus face damage. Rolling Watcher and Shade Walker are both snowball cards. I added more face damage and board clog with Surprise Delivery, and a buff with False Peace.

Well I did okay the first day with a 4/10 record, but then lost 7 straight the next day haha. I decided I couldn’t keep going to finish the challenge because I didn’t want to de-rank from Mythic especially since I was going on a small road trip for Thanksgiving thus couldn’t re-rank for the weekend.

So why did the deck do so poorly? Well, the higher mana Atlanteans are way too slow, and at 4 mana it’s not easy to hide them on the same turn. I think I got Smoke Bomb’s effect to go off exactly once haha. Compared to Hidden Aggro, it’s also missing a lot of good Hidden cards from Core like Switch Duelist, and no buffs like Dark Knives or Assassin’s Aim makes it hard to finish a match before you get overwhelmed. There were definitely quite a few close games where I was really close to winning (especially one where I had a 10 attack twinstrike Spiral Golem but they were able to get Protect on their face for 2 turns, and another game where they drew Protective Benediction to give their creatures frontline) but the deck just didn’t have the firepower to close out most of the time. Anyways, it was still fun coming up with a deck, just wasn’t fun losing all those games in a row haha.

Next Challenge

The next challenge is not that interesting at all, just use Death Nature or War. I’m going to see if I can play with a deck that I haven’t done before to keep it interesting.

How will I attain a deck like that? And how did I get the cool Genesis cards for this deck here? Well it’s from my team Play2Win! We actually just got our website made so please check it out! I’ll be writing a separate post about it soon :)

I agree, that's why I don't use many 7-mana cards.
