My Updated $10 Card Draw Deception Deck. Testing in Auric

in Gods On Chain • 7 months ago

I told in the last post my deck experiments sent me to Midnight Shadow. I reached Auric three times and immediately dropped the rank back. 😒 Probably, the hypothetical algo wanted to test me deck with decent aggro decks and I failed to overcome that obstacle. So, in the last days, I tried to make my original Card Draw Deception deck more aggro resistant. That's what I have after that:

Deck code: GU_1_2_CFPCFPIAnIAnBFXBFXCCWCCWNBpNBpBBJBBJBHMICmICmIAkIAkMBhMBhIDDIDDNCbNCbCCgCCgGBEGBECCNCCNLAG

Reached the safe zone in Auric 🙂:

How To Play

I have described the principles of the deck in detail in my last post. Shortly: overfill the opponent's hand to make them lose cards, use sleep to prevent damage to your god, try to damage 15 the opponent's god will all means, then summon Resurgent Sirens with equipped Cobra Scepter and repeat it again (with the help of returning cards) to finish the opponent's god. No removing spells since you kill creatures with sending them back to overfilled hand. Forge New Bonds can diminish mana cost of Resurgent Sirens and, thus, give you a better chance to win.

That tactics works well against control but aggro opponents used to win easily if you don't have cards to stop them. So I re-designed the deck for that reason. And that's how I play against aggro after that.

Playing Card Draw Deception Against Aggro Opponents

Grand Vault - my first reaction is "no, no, no, 2 cards as gift to an aggro deck of the opponent at the early stage?"

But I decided that the card is rather good. It's main purpose to stop aggro Light and War at the early stage before the time of "the Great Wall" with mana 5 (4 sleep-all spells and 2 Toasts To Peace).

If you have Cobra Scepter equipped, you'll also make 2 damage with Grand Vault.

That's great to have Golden Curse at the same time with Grand Vault.

Surprise Delivery at the early stage works well in several ways here. If you play it with Grand Vault, aggro opponent can really struggle to remove the frontline. Golden Curse played after Surprise Delivery draw cards for you. At the same time, there is lack of space on the board so the opponent starts getting more and more cards in hand.

Grand Vault will send them 2 more cards, if Made Mark summoned or Hypnos Puzzle Box cast, they'll have even more.

So, I mulligan these cards against aggro opponents:

Made Mark is also a good choice.

Cobra Scepter is always worth equipping as early as possible. If the opponent has a relic remover (which is often), they can destroy Cobra Scepter sooner or later. But for the final operation with Resurgent Sirens, we have another one.

An Extra Technique

Especially in case of aggro Light, you can find yourself in the situation when the opponent's board is empty or sleep, and you can summon Resurgent Sirens very early. Then, you have a chance to start hitting face with Resurgent Sirens while keeping the enemy creatures in sleep. And that's another way to win an aggro opponent.

How to Neutralize Opponent's Relic Removers?

The described deck is based on Cobra Scepter and, at the same time, draws cards for the opponent. That means if they have a relic remover, it will appear sooner. What to do?

That's why I play 1 Cobra Scepter as early as possible. Its mission to make early stage damage around 15 together with Surprise Delivery + relics, spells, and creatures from Hypnos Puzzle Box. Getting the second Cobra Scepter with Flip god power + so much card draw usually isn't a problem.

Secondly, if you are efficient with overfilling the opponent's hand, many opponent's cards disappear - a relic remover can become one of them. Moreover, nowadays, many decks constantly draw and delve cards so overfilling them isn't that tough.

Hypnos Puzzle Box (2 of them in the deck) often bring relics. If your first Cobra Scepter destroyed, try to lure out the second relic remover with a relic from Hypnos Puzzle Box.

Other Players' Card Draw Deception Decks?

Super curious about that but I've never encountered any and you can't search for Card Draw Deception in GuDecks since they haven't yet separated that archetype, probably. My deck is classified "Aggro Deception" by GuDeck which is obviously absurd.
