Demo is also out of the reach of most new comers. So that card being mandatory is sort of a bad look.

It is not mandatory at all! I beat plenty of players with 2 Demogorgon. But there are some decks that I cannot optimize without it. I feel the game is pretty well balanced tbh.
There are many cheaper cards that can replace demo. Not 100% but pretty close.
