The Rio Grande Podcast

Today I am promoting the Rio Grande Podcast. This podcast focuses on the Rio Grande Valley region, which consists of the people who live along the Rio Grande in South Texas, which is on the Texas-Mexico border.

I haven't met these podcasters. I've only listened to their podcast. I don't expect that the podcast is for everybody as they cover mostly local topics with local guests. However, I think that for many people who have moved out of the Rio Grande Valley, it could serve as a connection back home.

Like many places along the US-Mexico border, the RGV has some cultural uniqueness to it. The population is about 95% of Mexican heritage. But over generations, there is a Tejano twist. People of the Rio Grande Valley live between two cultures and often speak both English and/or Spanish.

Adam Curry, the Pod Father, has suggested that people start hyper-local podcasts. Although such podcasts may not have mass appeal, they do serve a need for communities. Unlike news articles, podcasts can go into depth on subjects and do not require active consumption. For example, you can listen to a podcast while driving or doing other work. Therefore, it's easy to incorporate a podcast into your daily activities.

I don't listen to many podcasts since I am most always listening to an audible book while doing chores. A local podcast would be interesting though.
