This subject is a serious one for me, maybe because I am someone of a small stature and maybe because I have also been a victim of what those big looming statures to can do to seemingly smallish ones who may not have any boldness to defend on themselves.
Bullying trive in the face of cowardice, these bullies seem to have unusual power on those whom they feel have cowardly tendencies and cannot stand up to them or the shy ones who are introverted and are likely to always be on their own.
The one whom are not sociable and are not outspoken or extroverted are also victims of bullying. The ones who always seem to always on their own and seemingly take the lonely path. There are a lot of reasons why people may appear to be on this unpopular path or under these category of persons but whatever be the reason, no one has the right to bully another.
In my own perspective, I think these bullies are the one with the issues, they have a lot of things going on with them and a lot of insecurities and probably emptiness to cover up and hence they tend to bring others down just to build their own lacking esteeem.
Being amongst the smallest in my class as a high school student, I tried everything possible to avoid this particular girl in the class. She was big of frame with towering height. For some reasons unknown to me, she just doesn’t like me and would pick on me at all possible instance.
The only only thing that she didn’t do was beat me up but I know she would have gladly done so if the rules weren’t strictly against such and would stop at nothing to punish bullies who bullied others openly. I still remember her full names till date hahahaha, that’s the extent her bad memories were entrenched in my mind.
Certain factors fuel bullying and they include:
- Environments or atmospheres where violence and aggression are dominant which is a Pointer to social and cultural norms. If you are a leader in any sphere, it would be a great thing to create an atmosphere that if free from aggression and dominance.
- Lack of empathy for others feelings
- The imbalance of power as these bullies lookout for weak individuals
- Bullies used bullying to cover for their feel of insecurity and inadequacies
- Peer pressure and the dynamics of family background can also contribute to bullying especially those from dysfunctional homes and etc.
The incidents of cyber bullyings are now on the rise. The bullies seem to have gone online. These days there are cases of these arising everyday. Just yesterday, I saw someone offering money to people to unfollow a particular account who has over 7million followers. That’s the height of cyber bullying.
Being someone who has being a victim of bullying, I suggest some ways to avoid bullying.
- Always try and be confident and calm because bullies always goes for people who seem weak and vulnerable.
- Avoid engaging with bullies, always remove you from the scene and avoid their paths.
- Always be outspoken and report incidents of bullying to higher authorities.
- Institutions should enforce anti- bullying policies
- For cyber bullying, protect your personal information and limit your online visibility.
- Be kind when engaging with others and report bullies and block bullies.
The fight against bullying is a fight for all. Say no to bullying.
