I looked at some maps of the current Internet outage. I was surprised by the amount of traffic in Western Africa is underwater.
Telecommunications in the United States is largely a grid of landlines. I guess that national politics makes it difficult to string cables between nations.
I hope that telecommunications companies wake up to the problem and build a more robust system in Africa.
