I have talked and will continue to do so in a section of the blog about animals that are harmful to the garden, but there are also many animals that are beneficial to the garden. These are the predators that help us control pests in the most efficient and clean way possible. Our job will be to attract them and respect them so that they can help us get the best harvests.

The European Jay is a small to medium-sized corvid, about 35 cm long and 55 cm wide, that feeds mainly on fruits and seeds. So it doesn't meet my criteria for a garden helper. So the question is why have I put it here? Well, it's simple because I like it and because, although it doesn't benefit gardeners, it does benefit the ecosystem in general.
Although I have said that it is a bird that feeds mainly on fruits and seeds, I will also say that it is a great consumer of insects during its reproductive season. This happens with many birds that eat seeds but hunt when they have to raise their brood.
A curious thing about this bird is that it loves acorns, so it collects them and stores them underground to eat them later. It stores so many that it forgets many and acts as a repopulator of the forest, which is its preferred ecosystem. So we could say that it makes its house to its liking.
