I am concerned with the behavior of President Biden around the latest events. I watch the news, and he seems to be overwhelmed with stress. From what I hear, he is snapping at the lawmakers and journalists. That isn't the calm, steady leader we actually need right now.
It presents a clear picture that he is indeed under very high pressure; some Democrats have gone ahead to urge for his stepping aside. But you can't lash out, that's not the answer. When I hear now about him raising his voice on calls and becoming defensive in interviews, it makes me question his ability to handle the stress of another term.
There is his age, of course. I don't mean to say that older people can't lead, but Biden's recent mistakes are just a little bit worrying. He is not, however, doing himself any favors by trying to fight back criticism over matters of decline in sharpness. Instead of facing it directly, though, he deflects and blames it on the media. I don't want to see that kind of leadership.
I can understand why Biden needs to be strong: Democrats need a fighter with Trump possibly in the race on their side. But there's a fine line between being firm and being angry or defensive. Right now, I think Biden is crossing that line.
People say he has that "Irish temper". After all, a president really does need to keep his cool, especially when under the pressure of international tensions. If Biden can't handle some criticism from members of his own party without getting angry, how is he going to deal with foreign leaders who don't agree with him?
I am also disappointed in the way the Biden campaign is handling this. Instead of coming out with a clear response that can address these fears, they are staying silent over the matter. Such lack of openness greatly increases speculation and doubt.
Looking ahead, I start to wonder if Biden is really the best choice for the Democrats. Yes, he's experienced, but at what cost? The party needs someone who can energize voters and stand up to Trump without looking frustrated or defensive. My opinion is simply that it's time for Biden to think about stepping aside seriously. The Democrats have many bright young leaders who can take up that role. Maybe a new face is what it takes for the Democrats to win in 2024.
I think Biden's recent behavior shows a sign of a larger problem within the Democratic Party. They're struggling with a single message and vision for the future that everyone can support. Until they do, we are likely to see more of these tense moments and internal conflicts.
