The Battle of the Billionaires Musk vs. Biden

in Cent4 months ago

Elon Musk has really kicked up a hornet's nest in the presidential race. That, to me, is crazy: how he went from being ignored by Biden to becoming the central villain in his campaign. It's like watching a high-stakes drama unfold right before your eyes.

Biden is making Musk a focus point. Then again, it's something that surely fired up his base of people who aren't fans of billionaires bossing around in politics. On the other hand, this might come across as a quite dangerous play that can alienate some tech-savvy voters who really love what Musk does.

What really strikes me is just how personal this fight has become. Biden used Musk's own social media platform to strike at him. What a way to rub salt in the wound! I can't help but wonder if this might instead backfire into attention and influence for Musk.

The whole situation just goes to show how entangled tech, wealth, and politics have become. It is not only Musk, that we are having, we're seeing a line of Silicon Valley bigwigs behind Trump. I think this really shows that the tech world isn't some apolitical bubble anymore; it's right in the midst of the political fray.

What's interesting is that Biden has tried to frame this as a struggle of people versus the ultrarich trying to "buy" the election. I have no doubt that people who feel left behind by the tech boom will readily understand this narrative. But equally, I can't help but note the irony, given how much Musk's companies have benefited from Biden's policies.

First, the fact that Biden's anti-Musk rhetoric is already keeping his campaign coffers full is quite telling. It shows there's actually a real appetite among Democratic voters for this kind of messaging. It's like they've found a new boogeyman to rally against.

What all this reflects, in my view, against the larger backdrop is that our society is getting increasingly polarized. It is no longer about which political parties one subscribes to; it's more about which set of tech titans one roots for. I find that a bit concerning. It feels like we're moving further and further away from policy debates into personality-driven politics.

Questions

Will making Musk a campaign issue actually sway any voters, or is that just preaching to the choir?

My gut tells me this is only the beginning of a very long, hard fight between these two giants.
