Here on Hive Plagiarism is dealt with by the downvote button but in the real world when it matters most it can cost millions upon millions of dollars and that's exactly what's happening with Elon Musk right now. Copyright laws are set to protect people's original content from being used by others without permission or payment.
The richest man in Europe is called Bernard Arnault and at some point I think this year, if my memory serves me right, he was the richest man on earth. He's suing X platform for copyright. X is apparently using content from French news outlets without paying the French Media.
The French laws explicitly states it outright that tech companies must pay for republishing news and Arnault’s companies alongside others like Le Figaro and Le Monde are standing up for their rights over their own content.
They want Musk to reveal how much X makes from their articles and pay them accordingly and I understand why that could be the case. They paid a price to generate that content and X just took it without permission or payment.
But just think about this, Arnault is the richest man in all of Europe so the money from suing Elon Musk is worth nothing to him. He obviously doesn't need that cash. I believe this is just a statement he wants to make to Elon that even his vast wealth can’t dodge regulations and especially regulations supporting journalism.
But X is refusing to comply, to pay and to reveal how much they're making from the French content. So things could get very messy because we're dealing with two billionaires with a lot of power. It could even raise a conflict between the two nations that is America and Europe.
