The Wealth Tax Lie We Keep Hearing

Is anyone else sick of hearing that rich people don’t pay their taxes?

The narrative that the wealthy are getting away scot-free is ridiculous. The bottom 50% in America pay just 2.3% of all taxes. Meanwhile, the top 50% shoulders 97.7% of the burden. That’s a massive disparity, and yet, the blame keeps falling on the rich.

Everyone wants to talk about the top 1%, The supposed villains. Well, that 1% alone pays over 42% of all taxes. How can anyone argue that they’re not paying enough when they’re essentially keeping the entire system afloat.

I’ve got friends who believe in all these “tax the rich” ideas, and I used to think maybe there’s some middle ground. But I don’t buy it anymore. The system’s not perfect for sure, and there’s certainly always loopholes, which we should be closing. But this idea that we can solve everything by squeezing more out of the wealthy is absurd.

If anything, we should be having a conversation about where the money’s going, not just who’s paying. I don’t feel better knowing that billionaires pay so much if it all disappears into inefficient programs.
