Metal Corner Brackets

in DIY3 years ago

I've been working on a short follow-up Metal Corner Brackets trying to answer some of the questions that came out of the last Metal Corner BracketsI'm about halfway through so bear with me as you can see I took the whole thing apart piece by piece down the last nut and bolt now I can't quite figure out how to put the thing back because I'm starting with some two-inch 50-millimetre square cold-rolled steel I plan to make the body the Metal Corner Brackets out of this stuff some aluminium for soft jaws and I have some precision ground round stock I'll use for the guides a little larger diameter would have been nice but this is what I have if you don't know what I mean by guides it'll become apparent as you work through the builds for now though let's pop back over to the mill and start getting this thing down to size yeah I'll be right back I got to go talk to the front office okay as it turns out we can cut this stock.

If their math is right we can make this in pieces and assemble it later love that smell of fresh-cut stock Metal Corner Brackets you block spin all cleaned up all squared up it's pretty close to the final dimension there's probably four or five foul additional material final dimensions not important I plan to grind all of the parts to the same size and I'm not really concerned what that size is I plan the Machine this thing using the coordinate system on the mill the digital readouts Outdoor Screws the way outlines aren't strictly necessary I think it might be a better visual both for the story and you know keep me from making any bonehead mistakes I've installed a roughing end mill. You can see the one I was using before was smooth continuous flutes these are serrated these are like the steak knives of the end mill world roughing end mills removal a lot more material faster than a regular end mill finishing them maybe but they don't leave as nice a finish let me take the majority the material out with a rougher and then do a finish pass with a standard end mill now this is high speed steel and it's going to be moving a lot of stock for this size machine so I'm gonna run it with coolant the white stuff you folks keep asking about is emulsified oil sold this corn and mix it with water the machines got a tone system that pumps it through picks it back up at the bottom of the machine filters it and just keep cycling it does make a bit of a mess though Outdoor Screws and there it is surface finish could have been a little bit better maybe if I used a sharper end mill you'd see it's pushing over a burr and I don't know if you can make it out but there's a line right at this height 5/8 of an inch or so did both sides and that line is on both sides.
