How Would You Go About Purchasing Hive From Your Location?

in Ask the Hive2 years ago

I often hear the question "how do I buy Hive" in either random Hive discords or a few outside of it, as someone who personally has access to and can use Binance it's quite easy for me as it offers fiat deposits & withdrawals and also crypto ones among other things. I often forget that not everyone can use it depending on where they reside in (U.S citizens for instance as Hive isn't listed on Binance US) and some may not even want to KYC.

So my question might be a two parter;

  1. How would you go about buying Hive from where you reside in with KYC enabled
  2. How would you go about doing the same without KYC/is that even possible these days?
To open up the question to more people, you may also answer how you go about turning Hive into fiat.

I'd be interested in how difficult it may be for some people and if they're aware of some methods I or others reading the comments may know of that may help them or maybe make the middleman journey cheaper.

Hello! From Cuba I tell you, at least my short experience:
Being Cuban citizens, we don't have access to platforms like Binance nor to USD as FIAT currency. Neither to VISA, MASTERCARD, PAYPALL, ZELLE cards, in short....
When I started in Hive a little over a year ago, there was only one way to buy it and that was through Orinoco.io, but the exchange rate was well below many other exchanges. When I created my account it required KYC, I understand that it is no longer mandatory. However it was the only known way for us.
Currently I can acquire Hive through COINEX as well, with a better price. But...
In any case, for this we can not make FIAT deposits and directly buy the Hive, noooo hahaha I wish it was that easy.
To acquire it previously we have to buy a crypto exchangeable in a Cuban exchange called Qvapay, or through P2P. From there, we could then transfer through BTC LN to Hive directly, or send to Coinex or another exchange allowed for us (basically one that does not require KYC) in usdt and there buy the Hive.
Coinex does not require KYC either.
To convert the HIVE to FIAT, I do it like this for example:
V4V (BTC LN) ----> MUUN Wallet-----> QVAPAY.com.
( if it is a small amount I send it directly V4V ---> Qvapay)
In Qvapay, everything is converted to an internal token called SQP (1 SQP = 1usd ) and then I create an offer in the P2P to my local currency CUP or MLC.

In the official market 1usd = 120 CUP, but it's not really like that because in the bank they don't sell you USD hardly, so the black market has it at another higher value where 1 USD= 170 CUP
o
to MLC ( this is a currency that only exists in the virtual environment in Cuba) where
1 USD = 1 MLC, which is the one that can be used to buy basic, second and third necessity products.

There are other ways created by Cubans to convert the HIVE or HBD to Fiat such as the @HiveRemesasBot created by @crptogeek , and https://cubees.xyz/ created by @noakmilo.

I know it is a bit complicated, due to the economic and political situation of the country, but I can tell you that if you can do it from Cuba, it is likely that from anywhere else in the world as well.
I wish there was a more expeditious way to do all this.
This is my very short experience, surely other Cuban hivers have discovered a better method.

Wow! That is a lot of hassle to be able to buy/sell your hive to the local currency. Having Binance available in my country sure makes things much more easy for me.

For sure! Here is a madness 🤭 but we are resilient 😅🤣 and look for the alternative to do what we want 😂 I need a visa card in my life 🤣🤣🤣👌

We never know how lucky we are until we see the opposite. All my cards are visa's, but I never thought it was something special elsewhere.

Have you thought about using ltc instead of btc for the transfers? The fees are a lot cheaper :) ...

I am using Binance to buy Hive and then send them here.
By the way, there are a few anonymus cards that can allow the anonymous purchase from Fiat to crypto on some exchanges (depending from place to place) and they are the following

https://coinpaycard.net
https://www.paywide.io
https://fcfpay.com/prepaid-crypto-debit-cards

Sometimes a virtual phone number may be required.

I was evaluating to write an article about it, with some necessary generalization since rules in Italy are likely different from rules across the rest of the world

I'm in Brazil and I buy hive through binance, I can even buy directly with R$ real, it is not necessary to have dollars or another crypto, since it already does the conversion.

Here, I think the biggest difficulty/fear is not the purchase of the currency (hive) itself, but the possibility of taxation on each crypto transaction, or specific taxes.

I recently bought HIVE without KYC using SimpleSwap and StealthEX.
The system is similar to Blocktrades, where you specify a currency pair and send money to Simpleswap or StealthEX, and the money is automatically converted to HIVE. I bought HIVE with TRX and XRP, but fiat is also available.

Other available exchanges are listed on the following page;
peakd.com → Wallet → Exchanges

Ok, here's what I do. I'm fairly sure this is not a good way to do it, but it's easy so that's why.

I use Uphold. I know they do KYC and I'm not a fan of that, but again...easy. Brave BAT payments go to Uphold so that's what got me started with them. I usually instantly trade my BAT to BTC.

Anyway, when I want to get some Hive I deposit Fiat to Uphold. It's a 3-day transfer from my US bank but Uphold credits the account instantly. I then use that to buy Doge, then I transfer that directly to Hive Engine and sell it for Hive.

I'm sure that's a bad way to do it with the fees taking at least a few bucks out of it, so feel free to laugh at me, buddy, but... well... it's my way! Haha

I suspect ltc fees might be cheaper than doge these days. I used to use doge to move funds, but stopped when they left the 27 to 30 sat range...

You might be right. I usually default to doge but when I do have more time, I'll try to figure out which coin has the lowest fee. Dash/ltc/doge seem to usually be the cheap ones.

Yeah, I actually hated it when 20 doge started to matter 😂 Especially since I didn't hold it, just used it for transfers 🤣

Aloha! 😎🤙

Here in Hawaii, we are only allowed to use 2 exchanges.. kraken and coinbase. (at least that was the deal when I opened my account) I chose kraken and couldn't even open at coinbase since they require a driver's liscence and I have had none for many a year..

So, I buy some other cypto (I like DOGE for the small transfer fees), then send it over to hive wallet via simpleswap. There's probably other ways, but that's how I get er done. :)

You aren't allowed to use Binance US, or exchanges without kyc???

right, it sucks that Hawaii is so paranoid. Last time I went to the bank to wire to Kraken, it took me an hour to sit there and answer many silly question about what I was doing with My money and like I was some old lady getting conned by the mean crypto guys. :P

🤣 were they really worried about you, or just trying to discourage you from crypto...

Once you have itin crypto form, you can trade anywhere you want :)

😉🤣 yea, i'm sure they just enforce whatever is best for THEIR wallets.

Just like with a UK friend. His bank wouldn't let him buy crypto, despite the fact that it's legal. Not to mention it was his own money!

!LUV

yup. 😣 it's messed up..

Today, this is the "route" I would follow:

  • Transfer fiat into the crypto.com app on my phone, via ACH (no fee) transfer from my "tradfi" account.
  • Convert to USDC.
  • Transfer to my BNB Chain account, backed by my Ledger Nano S Plus.
  • Convert USDC to HIVE on Cub Finance.
  • Transfer to my Hive blockchain account via Leo Bridge.

"Piece of cake ..." 😉

I personally used Binance (KYC enabled) to buy HIVE. I see there are other options available via the Peakd frontend although I haven't tried any of them yet. But the modes of payment specified are easily accessible for me.

I'm based in Switzerland and I'm using mainly Bittrex for my transactions. There is a combination of Hive with USD as well as BTC. I haven't booked the fiat back on the credit card yet but from the instructions it looks like a rather easy process. In the past I used to fund my account through Coinbase (send BTC to Bittrex and then exchanged for Hive).

Its not really possible for me to buy HIVE or literally any crypto with direct cash from the bank. Since crypto is not completely legal out in here. But there are other ways to buy crypto from here. And most of it have to be dealt with p2p orders. And so far I have been doing it and it is one of the best and quite famous way to make things happen for us.

But I wish one day, I would be able to buy crypto from the bank without having to worry about the second party who I am dealing with in p2p trades. Since there are risks involved in this sort of trades.

I’m in the US and i usually use Coinbase to buy LTC, then swap it on blocktrades. Their new kyc policy isn’t an issue for me since I’m using Coinbase anyways. Been wanting to try the no kyc CoinEx route also myself like enforcer said. I also noticed recently ChangeNow supports hive swaps with no kyc now for around .2 percent fee.

Mandala.exchange. Sister company of Binance. Every token Binance supports can be found at Mandala.

No KYC.

Americans using Mandala must use a VPN, I keep mine in Canada, never had an issue.

I use Hive Engine. I buy LTC from coinbase (but any exchange should work as wellnas several other cryptos) and transfer it to Hive Engine as swap.ltc then trade for Hive.

That's interesting, hadn't thought of that one!

Interesting method here. But does that mean you have to pay the conversion fee twice though? 0.75% for LTC to Swap.LTC, then another 0.75% for Swap.Hive to Hive?

Good question, sounds like it unless he just keeps them on hive-engine to buy some tokens there.

Random question cos you seem to know everything about Hive. :D

Do you know how long RC delegations take to come back to the owner after un-delegating? Is it 7 days like HP delegations?

HP is 5 days but I think RC is instant but they deplete similar to voting power in the form of delegations. So you'll still have to wait for them to recharge when you take them back and that should also be 5 days.

Appreciate the reply. 5 days should be workable I reckon. Need to reallocate my RC among my accounts so there is at least enough on main for all the things I need to do here.

I use Huobi. If I had a surplus of Hive and needed to help someone in my area, I could do it in a meeting, bypassing the exchanges)

I’ve no idea since we moved back to the UK. Wish I could buy using PayPal or some other convenient option since I can’t get a credit card yet while mortgage applications (being out of the country for a decade resets the credit rating)

I wrote a piece on how I do it in the U.S. (and almost lost a bit) a short time back. It's basically Money into Paypal, purchase BTC or LTC through Coinbase, then convert / send to Hive. Here's the post.

People living in Pakistan can Buy Hive from Binance which will require KYC. It takes less than 5 minutes to exchange Fiat into USDT and hive to Fiat through P2P service.

I don't know if there's any possible way to buy and sell without KYC here.

I am based on Portugal and here it easy.
I can send Fiat to Binance and buy hive or I can use other crypto in BSC or Polygon and bridge it to Hive.

Hi, may I ask you what do you use to bridge in/out? Thanks

Hi,
LeoFinance bridge.

I think the site is https://wleo.io/

Hey, I got a question about crypto and portugal. Can I dm you somewhere?

Hey,
Sure.
Send me a DM on discord Paiva#6686

CoinEx doesn't do KYC. You are limited to $10K a day if you don't KYC, which most people wouldn't have to worry about it.

No, it is very difficult and sad for us that all types of cryptocurrency transactions are still banned in our Bangladesh. However, many people in our country invest in Hive or other crypto using USDT through Binance, but it is definitely behind the scenes.

Here in Italy I do it easily, I send to Binance Fiat then I buy Hikve and transfer them to my wallet... I can also do the reverse by sending Hive to my Binance wallet then I sell and transform everything into fiat and I can withdraw everything or with a wire transfer or making me debit the amount I want on the card... I actually also have the Binance Card, which is also very convenient.

Not an answer to your question, sorry for that, but thanks for mentioning reverio. Looks like an interesting platform I (of course 🤪) wasn't aware of. Looks promising...

Enjoy, there may or may not be a token coming as well so might be worth using it early ;)

So far I never transfered fiat money to crypto, so no idea at all. I built my account by contributing on hive / swapping around some stuff / swapping a bit of non crypto game related stuff for crypto.

I'm wondering how I could get crypto to fiat though, so it's an interesting question and I'm glad to read the answers!

By the way, KYC = reveal your identity or what does it mean?

!PIZZA

Yeah "know your customer" basically having gone through identity verification process which many aren't a fan of understandably considering all the hacks in the past where user's info has been stolen and sold.

Oh okay, I understand!
Thanks for the explanation!

This is one of the questions I have eagerly needed answers too. Good thing I found this post✨

From times to times, I make peer2peer exchange post, where I reward people sending G1 or ACORN to me.
I upvote the reply with the link to the transaction.

Thanks for posting this, @acidyo - it's interesting to see what other ways there are out there.

Annabelle 😊

I pretty much always used Binance (Thailand first, Ireland then)

it is better to play safe and go for a reputable exchange like binance

All types of cryptocurrencies are also banned in our country. But many of us complete KYC on Binance. However, there are some exchange sites that do not require KYC. i.e. CoinEx

Mexc global does not have KYC and has Hive

I live in the US so I buy LTC from Coinbase and then use @blocktrades to exchange it for HIVE

You can buy LTC-USDT-USDC and then buy HIVE from @blocktrades . Or buy a good VPN and buy from Binance

In my case I can use P2P market such like Binance, Huobi or other and the transfer to my account. Or another chance to sell SPS or card owned on Splinterlands to get some Hive.

2 .

I believe mexc is non kyc. At least they haven't me asked for that. Yet 😂

How do you deposit from fiat onto it? :P

No idea, i just deposit crypto 😄

I am from Nigeria and i have been willing to buy but i don't know how to go about it, good thing you made a post on it as it will create an avenue for my fellow Nigerians to give me a good answer.

With KYC - Cash-App - deposit usd, buy BTC, simple swap to Hive

No KYC but nasty fees - Get BTC deposit address from simple swap, insert cash into BTC ATM, and Get Hive in minutes.

Well, that was most interesting to read all the responses here. I am lucky to be able to use Binance here. I mainly use their p2p with Revolut. One time I wanted to transfer directly to my Huobi and bank blocked my account and I had to spend long time on the phone, listening to someone who has no idea about crypto, educating me how dangerous crypto and exchanges are. What a palaver!

I also purchased crypto with coinbase and Bitcoin.com wallet in the past, but in the end P2P to Binance seems to be the cheapest way to do it.

There was also a funny instance of me adding to my HE wallet without planning to do so. I purchased some wax on Binance a while ago when it was super cheap. Last month I finally sent it to my wax wallet. When I heard about Mutera game, I went to read about it and realised I could buy NFT packs with my wax and then easily transfer them to my HE wallet. Now regretting I only bought 1 pack 😂

My account was built from the bottom up, so I've never had the experience. But if I were to buy, I would deposit fiat into an exchange, buy ltc, then deposit it in Hive-Engine. I would then buy Hive with the ltc.
