Does the pump in price improve the quality of content.....

in Ask the Hive5 years ago

...or does it simply cause people to post shit and compromise their integrity and self-respect in a desperate attempt to garner rewards?

Today I noticed a very well know old Steemian create his first post on Hive under the pretext that he had been afraid of using his Steem Keys here and was a bit of a technophobe. Might I suggest he simply turned up for the money, in which case my respect for this guy goes to zero. If he'd have introduced this post with something along the lines of; "Wow, the Hive price is pumping so I thought I'd come over and get a piece of the action" that would have shown integrity and honesty. I might have raised an eyebrow at his brazenness but would have appreciated his openness!

The last few weeks have been lovely here. I've read a lot and the content has been extremely high and there's been a lot of engagement and respect. I've enjoyed it. Just the last couple of days though, the desperation to get a slice has trashed the content here.

I don't actually bemoan the pump, and for once, I am genuinely not being grumpy. It's brilliant to see the decisions the witnesses took, and the hard work put in by so many people to set this up being vindicated and for them to get no less than they deserve but seriously folks, let's not let greed, hypocrisy and jealousy gnaw away at this dreadfully nice community that's been built over the last month!

PS This is another great community set up by Acidyo, I much prefer this format of engagement based Q and A to the upcoming musing type thing, Quello that was announced yesterday!

Over to you, any thoughts?

'and for once, I am genuinely not being grumpy'...

LOL, are you sure? You're always grumpy! Who's the 'old Steemian', the intrigue!

The fact I didn't name and shame papapepper as I once would have done AND reigned back the language used to describe the two faced tosser indicates my mellowing with age and genuine non-grumpiness lol

Bah, I preferred the 'old you' :)

It’s gonna take a bit of adjustment.

I’m too used to sub $0.20 HIVE/STEEM post rewards.

There's too much 'adjustment' in the world already at the moment!
Hope you're keeping safe, especially at work!

Staying safe for now. Thanks.

I think I would side with the quality of content not improving. Right, time for some low effort business :P

Lol why break the habit of a lifetime mate ? ;-)

Hopefully you'll be able to bugger off back to Spain if this continues...with a new bike...before you get trapped in the grind :-)

:D

Reading my mind. Obviously wont be moving anywhere just yet but thinking I could be out by early 2021.

No, it will not improve the quality of the content, but I feel it will decrease. Why because when people see so much reward, users will start writing shit posts thinking that will get them so many rewards.

Sadly I think so too and already there are signs of this.

i will keep posting quality content in my own case but surely the quality of content will reduce generally

@rockor thanks for your comment, I haven't come across you before so I will visit shortly and have a read my friend :-)

yea thank you. you are welcome

Lol. Most will be back for the money so start getting used to seeing former Steemians who held the turf of having unshareable stake. Hell... I wouldn't be surprised if Banfield showed up! Or is he here already?

Content won't change for some but I am among those looking to better themselves and polish their skills. I wouldn't want to have people's hardwork and trust upvoting something I didn't give my best.

Banfield lol.....a shiver just went up my spine after a had a flashback to 'that' video!!

I will come and give you a read and thanks for taking the time to reply :-)

You saw the video too? Lol. He baited us -read me and thousands of his brainwashed followers- like the money hungry fools we were. Smh.

Definitely. You are most welcome :)

Money always brings out the worst in people, it corrupts and people are notoriously greedy creatures. Make no mistake, you are definitely going to see some low-quality content from abusers and farmers and I think as a community, it is in everyone's best interests for the sake of Hive not being a money farm to downvote any shitty content they encounter or any instances of users abusing the reward pool.

Absolutely 100% :-) Let's see if anyone actually has the bottle to speak out with downvotes or whether the fear of retribution and its associated loss of reward puts them off!!

Post quantity will go up and post quality will go down. We are also going to see a lot of obnoxious price speculation and really lame hive tutorials.

Fortunately we will have a record of the people willing to compromise their quality for quantity. However some people have multiple accounts to play this with and are a little trickier to notice.

Pumped or not I personally always give my best for each post I make, whether the post is a short or a long one. But for those who think that quality is subjective, I suppose my posts don't always look that way. But that is fine by me, because you can't please everybody.

Thanks for taking the time! I came across you just a few minutes before your reply and you would definitely NOT fall into the category of my ire.
Best wishes and I was about to trawl through your work as the taster I had was fabulous. Luckily, from my post I found quite a few great new creators to feast upon :-)

Oh and, sorry, my answer probably sounded kinda self-centred there lol. I was writing comments and replies on multiple posts so I read way too quickly.

As for the contents from the peeps I follow, I didn't see low effort posts so far. Right now I'm still scrolling through my feeds and some of the communities. After this I'll check out the new section. Not now, though, because I'm really cranking up my RAM at the moment by having a lot of tabs of posts I haven't finished reading yet XD

LOL, no problem. You didn't sound self-centred, just slightly defensive so I had to point out that people like your good self were not on my 'hit' list!!

I just read your new intro. Rain is just the coolest name of all time, and I do have a story as to why......I know a couple of 'Rains', 'Fontoks' in Thailand, all ladies although it's a brilliant non-gender specific name, but when I was travelling in the Philippines in about 2007/8 , this advert was on TV all the time starring a very handsome and cool young Korean guy I think. It made me smile....

Rain is actually an alias that I made by anagram-ing my real name. And yes, there were some who thought I was a girl because of it lol. If only good look is also the thing I have in common with that guy in the commercial XD

Also, here's my version of that shampoo commercial:
I use Blender. The world doesn't watch my every artwork--my Instagram, my portfolio, my Ko-fi page. I like 3D. 3D looks good. Looking 3D means no dead GPU.

Blender has real-time render engine that gives you waiting time-free render.

I trust Blender. But the crashes still comes back. My name is Rain.

Blender. Still crashing.

It's ok if you don't get it. It's just me being my usual self, spouting nonsense here and there lol.

i personally thinks it leads to increased content but reduced quality as the price drives writers to write more and get more rewards. I think we should rather post little articles on hive and comment more.

I think price drives more people to show-up.

I don't think price improves quality, if anything, it reduces quality as it increases those trying to farm rewards.
