Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to talk about how we try to be as organized as we can, but things just sometimes don't work out.
Best Laid Plans
I aaaaalways PLAN to get more sleep, but do I actually get more sleep? Often not :D
The other night, I was really tired because of getting over a cold, and the little man was as well so he had a lingering cough still. We ended up being up for way longer than is normal, so I was pretty tired the next day. Add to that there was some arguing going on, so overall I was not in a good place hahaha.
I had planned to go to sleep niiiice and early later on that night. We did some things during the day, enjoyed the nice weather and when it came time to wind down and actually go to bed, I realized that I had completely forgotten a critical task for the afternoon: laundry!
I am usually pretty diligent about the laundry as it's a task I have come to rather enjoy. I know a lot of people complain about the laundry, and folding it and stuff. I for some reason enjoy the folding part because I get to just relax, go into subconscious mode and just fold while listening to a podcast or something. I also occasionally fold clothes while watching a TV program or movie, but that is far rarer these days as I need to spend my time doing more productive things like getting up to date on some topics or learning more.
Since my son wears a uniform for school, that means that I have to make sure that the clothes are prepped and ready, and they are actually clean. The uniforms aren't the most expensive but the kid grows like a weed hahaha so we don't buy too many of the sets knowing that he will just outgrow it in a few months and we will be out of luck anyway.
We certainly used all of the pairs of pants that we had, and I didn't wash the dirty ones yet so as I'm laying there, nearly going to bed I realized that I needed to just get his clothes ready for the following day. To my annoyance, none of them were clean! Damn it! LOL
These are the things that end up happening, not all the time, but often enough where my plan to get to bed early ends up getting foiled. These are all fine and good things because it's my responsibility as a dad and husband to do my chores in the house such as this, but it was a tough one because I had taken the clothes OUT of the washing machine the day before to put something different in there. I should have left the damn things in there so they could have been washed all at once.. ah well. The best laid plans, right?
What about you, do you try to be organized for things so that you can go to bed early, but end up getting sidetracked by a mistake? Let me know in the comments!

Seemingly mundane activities like doing laundry are some of the best ways to let the mind relax and take some time off from the cycle of never ending thoughts. It's definitely a bit annoying when my well laid plans gets disrupted, it totally spoils the mood but I guess it's part of what planning is all about lol.
Damn that's actually a good way to think about it man! I never thought of it that way but it makes total sense! We do need to let our brains relax for the stresses of the day for sure.
If we could get a new home robot, I wish it would be one that could fold clothes. I throw all my clean clothes on the bed and fold it there, and end up with a sore back afterwards
Give that a few years and I'm sure they'll have robots available for you lol.
I sit down and put the stuff in a pile next to me and go to town, so my back is somewhat preserved maybe give that a try!
Hahaha I always fail to get to bed early, even though I try (I really try). But these days, it's usually on a best effort basis, and I avoid feeling guilty or blaming myself if it fails to happen. Sometimes there's just stuff that are interesting to watch on social media, or maybe a friend just called and needed a listening ear. Life is all about balancing all these considerations.
