Hi fellow Hiveians and dudes in the Man Cave!
Today I wanted to share some of the great progress we've made on cleaning up my wife's uncle's lake house. He lives on a decent sized lake but due to some health issues, the place fell in disrepair for several years. The yard was an absolute mess!
You can check out my previous posts here, here and here where you can see the progression of the cleaning. It was a real disaster before!

Progress
So the below picture is a pretty big change from what it was before! If you looked at the previous posts on it, the left side was lined with little shrubs everywhere and in the bottom middle of it was covered with a dilapidated dock and millions of pine needles. Where you see that little path of sand on the bottom left was all rotted wood and pine needles a few days ago.
This whole area is almost entirely changed lol. That wall was lined with bushes and shrubs but beyond that was dozens of trees starting to grow and endless pine needles. We've managed to consolidate it to that big pile in the back left. There were 4 piles spread across the front yard that I spent some time to make into that one big one. I will be moving that pile on the right side over to the one in the back this week so we can have one area that is decomposing, waiting to be put in the wood chipper.
It's also really nice, that big pine tree on the left is the path up to the cars. It was pretty treacherous before but now it's open and you can walk down it easily. The pine tree gives a decent amount of shade as well so that's nice to put the chair underneath it and relax. The sand under the pine tree is another view of the spot that the dock was, it was a unique walkway full of hazard, down to the area you can reach the water at.
The small maple tree there, the big birch behind it and the two pine trees are all that remain. There were numerous oak trees growing all around that we cut down. It's incredible how fast they grow! They are persistent as well, I still have several of the little things popping up that I need to remove but we were focusing on the biggest stuff first before we move over to that.
Apologies for the poor quality of the photo but below is a good example of the disarray that happened. I feel bad that her uncle didn't have the health or time to keep it up but he's so thankful of what we've done to help him clean up the place. That was just from not keeping it up for 2 years! Things took control and went wild. Mother nature really knows how to get back to work lol
Ideas
We plan to do a few really fun projects with the place with him. One is rebuilding the deck. I don't know if we will be getting to that this year but I would love to, if we could. Would be awesome to get my hands dirty and do something that awesome!
The second project we will be doing is building a walkway down to the beach with some really big stones that we got. His neighbor was doing a lot of work and on his property and pulled out some really awesome and big pieces of granite! We will be using those as a walkway down to the beach at certain intervals. I don't know if we will get to that this year, I would like to try since that will make the process of getting down to the water a lot easier but these things are HEAVY as shit! My 150 pound dolly couldn't touch them without breaking so I imagine they are easily 200, 250 pounds a piece.
The last project is building up a wall to even off the front yard. There is a decent land erosion problem that happens every spring. In the winter there's a lot of snow and when that freezes then thaws in the spring, it tends to take the top sheet of material right down to the water. It created the sandy beach that we enjoy now but it's challenging because we have to keep up with it otherwise the yard will fall apart.

The location is good. Direct contact with nature. You will succeed. Need time.
Thanks for checking my post out my friend! It is an excellent location indeed. It has a nice dock where you can spend some good time fishing or laying on the dock. It has a small but really nice private beach as well so that has been a lot of fun to spend time on. The best part about it though is that we get to spend time there without having to worry about crazy people or some stupid sickness, whatever they are trying to scare other people with and nobody can tell us that we can't be there. That is what we enjoy the most about it!
Impressive!
Thanks for checking out my post, I appreciate it! The lake house is a really beautiful place when we cleaned up the property. Looking forward to how it comes out when we do more work to it!

Well done.
The lakehouse looks like an interesting place for a weekend away from the urban buzz... serene!
