Podcast Purchase Promise

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to talk about how podcasts have changed me and what a benefit they are in terms of product exposure!

Podcast Purchase Promise

There are things that happen to change paradigms in our lifetimes, and I think we have experienced quite a few of them. For me, one of the best ones that is more of a focused topic has definitely been podcasts!

Podcasts were something that I thought of as lame, or old, or not cool a few years ago when I didn't listen to them. I think what changed that was certainly the whole global lockdown over a mild cold business that went on. I've always been on the "alternative" side of getting and consuming media but I didn't really do the podcasting thing as it was kind of in it's niche or infancy for a long time. That changed of course, for me and many millions of other people and now that's the primary way I get a lot of information.

I think it's great to do it this way, because it completely bypasses the old stranglehold that gigantic corporations had on how they could reach large numbers of people and consumers. I've learned SO much information and about so many different products, services and groups through this manner and it's absolutely been life changing. I could certainly be a typical person and sit on my ass watching television and tune out, go into the programmed depressed state and be a vegetable. I don't have a problem with people choosing to do that, as to each their own, but I myself have an incredibly hard time feeling and acting so lazy. Instead, I go around the house cleaning, organizing, doing things and generally staying busy doing something in the house because there is always something to do besides sit and watch television.

This consistent exposure and habit of podcasts has also exposed me to so many important products and concepts that I may have tangentially known about, but not really looked into more than that. By listening to a podcast where the particular guest comes on and talks about something they are passionate about, have a lot of experience with and have even designed or built products that are along those lines, it makes it a great experience. Granted, there are some salesman type shits going on, but for the most part, I take what they say with a grain of salt and will keep it in mind, but may not act on it necessarily.

There are some podcasts and groups though that I've listened to for a while and have come to trust. They bring information that I like, or even if I don't agree with them, their message and content is important and their guests are varied. Through those guests is where I learn about products that I've purchased after hearing them talk about it and doing a bit of research online for the different brands.

In a way this feels like a big upgrade from the "infomercials" that were famous on TV especially the late night ones. The whole podcast space has done quite a paradigm shift because instead of cramming all of the important information for somebody in a 45-60 second commercial or spot on the show, they are able to flesh it out and have a back-and-forth discussion for 60+ minutes, sometimes 2+ hours. This gives such a great opportunity to go into significant details and share other information about a product or process that you couldn't get at all in the past unless you called the company or bought a book about the stuff.

This is definitely a great change in the paradigm and certainly going to be an important way the future is shaped. The legacy ways to advertise and get people into something are dying with the older generation who are the targets, and the shift towards long-form content being the way a company can get it's message and products out there is absolutely a positive development for us all!

I will give these products a try for a few weeks and try and write a post about it in the future. It's going to be fun testing these things out!

What about you, do you get exposed to things like this through podcasts or do you prefer television, or online ads on a website? Let me know in the comments!

That's awesome thank you!

I really haven't tried any podcasts, but I've been leaning toward a couple.

I jumped in several years ago and really love it. I put on an episode while I'm cleaning the kitchen and living room, or getting work going for the day and it helps me learn something for a while, while also getting other needed things done.

What type of content are you leaning towards? I think the good thing about it as well is that the content can vary from the good podcast hosts so you may tune in for 30% of their episodes and not the others.

I think I would like something related to history.

There's a lot of fantastic history ones - I particularly love the new research and ideas that are being proposed about the pyramids in Egypt. It’s fucking incredible and completely shatters what we’ve thought about them for so many decades. The sad truth with the pyramids in particular is there is so much money behind it; books, courses, exhibits and all that are dedicated to one idea but with all of the research coming out from new researchers and those not held down by those monied interests, it’s really fascinating what they are coming up with.

There’s a few wonderful ancient history episodes I can recommend if you’re interested! More modern ones like civil war and things, I haven’t found any on those yet but I’m sure I’ll come across one at some point!

Sure, if you have some to recommend, let me know.

I tend to shy away from podcasts due to what I've heard leak out of some podcasters mouths.
Some are painfully ignorant and feeling that just because they have the microphone and headset they can say whatever.

Haha yeah it seems like you haven't listened to the right ones! There’s obviously Rogan but there are lots of others that have equally fascinating guests. Try Danny Jones, he’s a smaller version of Joe Rogan but he’s got some good people on. There’s also Jordan Peterson as well, and I’ve got 7-8 more that are not as well known but I love their content!

Hmmmm

I guess I'll check em out 👍

The ones I listen to are more educational. I don't listen to the bullshit that is like dating or shit like that. That's no different than watching Hollywood shit IMO. I focus on the things I will learn from!

I haven't actually went listening to any of them.
I just happen to come across a clip of a trending podcast or see one that someone's listening to and disagree strongly to what their saying.

Made me develope a kind of bias to that form of media 😂😂

Yeah.. that’s likely an intentional way they made the clip! The content is not all amazing but if you’re cleaning the bathroom or bedroom, listening to it helps keep things going.

I’ve started to explore other topics and it’s really interesting when someone who is really good at something like bow hunting in the mountains for deer explains all the different complex layers of the sport. I don’t know if I will do something like that but they often have incredible stories!

I’m not really a fan of podcasts because I feel it is old fashioned as you have said but I’m never going to dispute the fact that you can learn so many things or even be exposed to so many products on it

It's one of the best ways to learn about a topic, the 20-30 second sound bites of it are atrocious and leave so much room to forget and misrepresent something. A 60 minute or more episode on something is great! Some eve do 3-4 hours!
