Finally finished with this commissioned piece tonight. Excellent working hours on this one! I uploaded a few shots from the beginning process yesterday also explaining my undying love for lanterns :D Watercolor works are one of the most satisfying mediums to do when you have the patience to wait between layers. I donโt even remember how many layers this took but I am quite happy with it. The ground still looks like it can use a touch of leaves tho :)
The dark purple is also balancing out the contrast between the reds and the greens which was actually a coincidence. As always, one of my favourite parts to paint were the attires of the couple which were nearly similar. Giving just the right details on a white background can make fabric folds look really beautiful to watch. I am still learning to do that as I go ahead but this is it for tonight! Hope y'all are having a super week!
Let me know what you guys think. I love to hear from you! ๐งก

It's really a beautiful artwork. Well done ๐
Thank you so much ๐
I was wondering what were those red things until I read your description of the piece hahaha those are the so-called chochin in Japan! What are they called in India?
Beautiful illustration!
Oh hehe! I didnโt know they had a separate name in Japanese :)
Some call it "laalten" here in India but that is mostly used by the elderly people. It was actually a term used for the smaller kerosene lamps before.
Beautiful painting ๐
Thank you so much!
