Coffee and creativity

in Sketchbook4 years ago

Who among us does not like to drink a cup of fragrant invigorating coffee in the morning in order to finally wake up and launch all our energy and productivity? Or just to create a good mood for the day ahead?

But some people not only drink coffee, but are also inspired by it so that they are able to do the most incredible things with it.

Today I will talk about several creative people who use coffee as a source of cheerfulness and inspiration, but as a material for their creative self-expression.

Drawings of prepared coffee or coffee grounds

Paintings and drawings with the help of coffee have already become a separate direction of art, for the number of artists who are ready to splash out their favorite drink on paper in a creative impulse is constantly growing.

You probably know about monumental coffee paintings by Karen Eland or coffee art by Angel Sarkela and Andy Saur.

So the Brazilian illustrator and designer Dirceu Veiga, a big fan of both art and coffee, decided to combine his two passions.

The works of Dirceu Veiga are, in fact, not coffee paintings, but coffee drawings, more reminiscent of not the Tretyakov Gallery, but a comic book magazine. You can even order your own coffee-painted portrait. This is the distinctive feature of Dirceu Veiga.

Coffee Bean Mosaic

Albanian artist Saimir Strati has created a huge mosaic of one million coffee beans. To create his masterpiece, he used 309 pounds (140 kg) of coffee beans, and today his work is recognized as the largest among similar mosaics in the world, and even entered the Guinness Book of Records.

The mosaic depicts five different nationalities: African drummer, Brazilian dancer, European accordionist, Japanese drummer and American singer.

Picture of glasses with coffee

But such "Mona Lisa" by the great Leonardo da Vinci was recreated by ordinary people from ordinary glasses of coffee prepared in various ways - from dark glasses with espresso to completely light ones with lattes.

The installation was created for the opening ceremony of the RocksAromaFestival in Sydney in 2009. More than 3500 cups of coffee and almost 340 liters of milk were used to make a coffee "canvas" measuring 4 by 6 meters.

Coffee stains

Listening as usual to the song of the popular Taiwanese musician and actor Jay Chou, a young Malaysian artist Hong Yi. The story of a journey twenty years in the past, and the line of the song about the coffee cup caused a real storm of emotions in the girl, and by accidentally putting the cup on the tablecloth, Hong Yi left a bright coffee mark on the white fabric.

This trail left such a vivid impression that it inspired the artist to create the painting, which took over 12 hours.

She painted a portrait of her favorite singer with the dirty bottom of a coffee cup. And she became the first in a whole series of her works using coffee.

Well, and the most, in my opinion, the original example.

The well-known UK artist Philip Levine uses his head as a canvas for creativity!

The history of his creative path is as follows. When the 30-year-old English artist began to go bald, he approached this annoying trouble creatively, and, without thinking twice, decided to give his bald head to the service of art.

Since 2006, he has offered it as a canvas for the implementation of various creative ideas. Body art, Swarovski crystals, pushpins, and finally coffee beans have become an adornment of the artistic bald head.

Levine's portrait was taken by London-based photographer Daniel Regan and was featured at the CoffeeArtProject exhibition at the London Coffee Festival.

So Philip Levine created a whole art direction under the code name "headism", and his sleek head became a whole brand.

If you know any more examples of the creative use of coffee for creative self-expression - share it, I will be grateful.

Until then ...drink coffee and get creative!)
