Hi Hivers! Today I want to show you a graphite drawing I did last year of one of my favorite people, the Irish actress Katie Mcgrath. I did this drawing at a time when I was about to give up about the drawing, I will tell you how this portrait helped me to get out of that little crisis.
Hola Hivers, hoy quiero mostrarles un dibujo a grafito que hice el año pasado de una de mis personas favoritas, la actriz irlandesa Katie Mcgrath este dibujo lo hice en un momento donde estaba a punto de rendirme con el dibujo, les contare como este retrato me ayudó a salir de esa pequeña crisis.
One day a partner told me that as artists the best way to inspire us is to rely on the people we admire, on what we are passionate about and I couldn't agree more with that thought, I always keep it in mind. When I run out of ideas and I have a blockage I always cling to what I like, I read a book, watch a series, documentaries, works of artists unknown to me always looking to find that special connection that makes me get inspired.
Un día una colega me dijo que como artistas la mejor manera de inspirarnos es apoyarnos en las personas que admiramos, en aquello que nos apasiona y no puedo estar más de acuerdo con ese pensamiento, siempre lo tengo presente. Cuando me quedo sin ideas y tengo un bloqueo siempre me aferro a lo que me gusta, leo un libro, veo series, documentales, obras de artistas desconocidos para mi buscando siempre encontrar esa conexión especial que me haga inspirarme.
Last year I was watching a series called Merlin where Katie plays Morgana Pendragon, seeing her great work as an actress gave me that impulse to want to do the same but in my work as an artist. So I decided to portray her, I started making the sketch with the loomis method using a HB pencil without much pressure on the paper to easily erase any mistakes.
El año pasado estaba viendo una serie llamada Merlin donde Katie interpreta a Morgana Pendragon ver su gran trabajo como actriz me dio ese impulso para querer realizar lo mismo pero en mi trabajo como artista. Así que decidí retratarla, inicie realizando el boceto con el método de loomis utilizando un lápiz HB sin hacer mucha presión sobre el papel para borrar fácilmente algún error.
Then I started to shape it, I like to start with the eyes. Some people say they are the window to the soul, so I think a lot of a person's personality is reflected in them, for the dark parts like the iris of the eye use a 3B pencil. Also gently outline the skin contour with HB pencil.
Luego empecé a darle forma a mi me gusta iniciar con los ojos. Algunas personas dicen que son la ventana del alma, por lo que creo que mucho de la personalidad de una persona se ve reflejada en ellos, para las partes oscuras como la iris del ojo use un lápiz 3B. También marque suavemente el contorno de la piel con lápiz HB.
Then I continued with the contours of the face and lips, with this done we have already defined the features of the face, for this case Katie Mcgrath is a person with very white skin so I left the skin light without marking much the graphite
Luego continuó con los contornos del rostro y labios, con esto terminado ya tenemos definido las facciones del rostro, en este caso Katie Mcgrath es una persona de piel muy blanca por eso deje la piel clara sin marcar mucho el grafito.
The hair is a great protagonist in this drawing, I worked it in layers, first mark the direction of the hair with an HB pencil and then pass a 3B and 4B pencil for the darker areas, for the brighter areas use a mechanical pencil eraser.
El cabello es un gran protagonista en este dibujo lo trabaje por capas, primero marque la dirección de los cabellos con un lápiz HB y luego pase un lápiz 3B y 4B para las zonas más oscuras, para las zonas más brillantes use un borrador de portaminas.
Finally after hours of work the portrait of Katie Mcgrath is finished. I must confess that drawing faces of people is out of my comfort zone but I liked the result to experience something new and have a portrait of my favorite actress, a curious fact about this actress is that she has no social networks get information from her is a challenge even when she is active on the set, she also loves to read books is something we have in common. Finalmente luego de horas de trabajo el retrato de Katie Mcgrath está terminado. Debo confesar que dibujar rostros de personas está fuera de mi zona de confort pero me gusto el resultado de experimentar algo nuevo y tener un retrato de mi actriz favorita, un dato curioso de esta actriz es que no tiene redes sociales conseguir información de ella es un desafío incluso cuando está activa en grabaciones, también le encanta leer, es algo que tenemos en común.
