Happy Sunday! For this painting, I decided to do something a bit more colorful, this was spurned out of something a friend said, I’m not sure if it rubbed me the wrong way or the right way. I pretty much laughed it off
They mentioned something about how “white” my work looked. They mean white in terms of non-Nigerian/ African. I felt very weird and I tried to explain how my personal art style has no race, it’s just me expressing myself and what I feel by using my imagination combined with what I’ve learnt from great artists as well as my intuition. I kinda just picked up my watercolor and painted after that.
With this painting, it’s literally impossible to tell if it’s white or black. It’s filled with so many colors, just like we humans, we shouldn’t let race or ethnicity define everything or bind things into a single box. I just enjoy creating art, it might not be of what’s generally expected, but it’s me expressing myself and I’m happy doing it.
Art is my therapy ; )
PROCESS
Materials: I made use of Van Gogh watercolor & brush, and my Sinoart sketchbook
I drew the girls face from my head before proceeding to paint. The eyes and lips are one of my favorite places to paint. I made use of yellow, orange and burgundy. I noticed adding a bit of yellow to an area where one wants to add some reds, makes the area seem fuller and much more alive. The area where the blue eyeshadow bleeds into the background was actually a mistake, but it looked nice so I replicated it on the left side too! This was a really fun painting!
Criticisms and observations can hurt sometimes, but it’s important that we learn from it and move forward :)

One thing people should understand is that art is a medium of expression moreover it’s also like DNA , the way you represent things is different from the way another person is going to depict there’s however I love your piece the pout looks real and the colors are really cool ! Keep up your work , don’t let it die
