A falta de agua, es buena la tierra. Un dato curioso es que los elefantes africanos suelen hacerse un baño de arena en lugar de agua; y es que en lugares donde no abunda el agua ni hay mucha vegetación, ellos se aplican una capa de arena o barro que se acumula en los pliegues de su piel arrugada y porosa y los ayuda a protegerse del sol y de los parásitos. Es una de las tantas formas de supervivencia que por instinto implementan estos inteligentes mamíferos. La pintura de hoy elegí replicar está inspirada en la siguiente imagen. First step	Primer Paso
Realicé el boceto con un lápiz de grafito.	I made the sketch with a graphite pencil.

Second Step	Segundo Paso
Realicé una aguada de pintura según el color de cada elemento de la pintura.	I made a wash of paint according to the color of each element of the painting.

Step Three	Tercer Paso
Continué con la aplicación de pigmentos partiendo de la premisa de que primero hay que aplicar los tonos más claros que posteriormente serán las iluminaciones. En la pintura con acuarelas hay que hacerlo de esta manera debido a que una vez que se aplique un tono oscuro ya no se podrá aplicar luz sobre esa zona, al menos no con acuarelas. In watercolor painting it is necessary to do it this way because once you apply a dark tone you can no longer apply light on that area, at least not with watercolors.

Step Four	Cuarto Paso
Dejar secar el papel. Recordemos que cuando el papel está húmedo nos dará tonos mucho más oscuros, así que antes de realizar cualquier ajuste o retoque es mejor hacerlo después que el papel este seco y templado nuevamente. Por otra parte las ondas que toma el papel cuando se humedece no favorece nuestro trabajo ya que la pintura toma la orientación de las lomas que se forman en el papel; esta es otra razón por la que hay que dar tiempo a que seque antes de continuar.
