Hi guys! I have had a couple of weeks away from hive as I have FINALLY moved house!!! 😀😀😀. I have also had another litter of beautiful bullies, but that is a post for another day.
Today I thought I would share another drawing with you.
My friends cat had sadly passed away and she had asked me if I could do a sketch of her so that she could put the picture in a frame next to her ashes. Of course I was happy to do it, but was worried it wouldn’t be good enough, so the pressure was on.
She sent me this photo to work from…
I began as I always do, with an outline to work from. Lightly drawn so that it can be sketched over, or removed where necessary.
I started to shade, but felt it looked too much like a tabby cat, rather than predominantly white, so I removed some of the shading.
Once I had removed the shading, I focused on the body shape and the legs. Neither of these felt right to me, so I asked for another reference photo to work from.
This felt more realistic to me and the body shape seemed to flow better. The final image that I sent to my friend was now complete.
My friend loves the picture and even shed a few tears! I was so pleased that she liked it. All the hard work was worth it to make my friend happy again.
I hope you like the drawing and the explanations!
Thank you so much for stopping by. I’d love to read your thoughts in the comments section.
Much love to you all! C and the bulldogs xx
Aww sorry about your friend's cat. But what a beautiful sketchy to put with the ashes :)
I think I would have cried too
Yay for finally moving! Did the litter come before, during or after the move? D:
A few days after 😂 it has been utter chaos!
Oh my, sounds like you would have had to set up an area for them in a hurry x_x all going well?
i struggle at cross hatching and doodling but this makes me wanna try to make some using tracing method . i mean we all practice to learn i just wish oneday im as talented as you are 😍 loved this
Awww thank you so much ☺️ I am still learning myself so use the tracing technique as a guideline. I don’t think it matters how you learn, the end result is still your artwork 💜
i also am like not an pro so its always helpful when someone posts like how they worked with the refrence photos this really helped me like to get an idea from where to start from thanks for posting ❤️
Wow! You're so good on that. From now on your friend has something to see when she missed her cat.
Thank you 😊
