Splinterlands art contest week #308 (Wood Nymph)

in Sketchbook4 months ago

Hey, Guys so I'm back again after taking 3 months off from here cause I was busy studying art 😩❤. But here we are again so I wanted to start again with my most fav art challenge on Hive which is the weekly art contest held by the Splinterlands community. This week I'm drawing one of their cutest bambi-eyed characters a Wood Nymph.

Let's discuss a little about her she is a Nymph and is a forest wood nymph so her hair is green and they have a flower blooming with her skin being a mix of blue and sea green and her eyes being blue too. Her body is very much like a fairy with a small curvy frame and elf ears and the clothes over them are just a long fabric draping over her body not like a mummy wrap more like drapery Greek-like clothes. She is very cute and innocent in her way yet the body seems revealing it's not vulgar at all so even with little clothing it looks very innocent and cute. That's how I saw the character in the card.

Keeping all those characteristics in mind I started by drawing a "Contrapposto" (that's just an art term we use for drawing poses where the weight is on mostly one leg and the other is shifted) so I started by drawing simple shapes to define how the pose would be next I define it most by drawing body mass over it and simply sculpting and erasing the parts and redefining them like in the frames u can see how I went from simple shapes to drawing her body over it and then her face and body. You just have to trust the process. The fourth frame is where you see the actual character coming out then I drew the hair and added the flower and drapery. her body. so that's our base sketch all done.

I tried cleaning up my base sketch more by using a kneadable erasure to erase the extra marks and just redrawing over it lightly now I have been a fan of mixed media so here I went on with painting her skin using the watercolors I did a glaze layer of thalo blue now on top of this I mix some sea green on the skin. Water coloring just is like layering colors on top and the end result isn't as vibrant pigmented. Because it dulls a little as it dries out.

Here I also colored her hair parrot green Now I go for a very pale dusky yellow diluted in water and with the brush I color the drapped cloth all over her body so it looks like a real fabric i also color the flower in her hair. These were the base colors here and I will be doing more details on them.

as I'm done with the base color layer that I did with watercolors, I made sure it's all dried up. I erase the extra pencil residue and start making the lineart with a fine-liner micron pen. I also colored the splash of water under her feet because I thought it would look cool. Next step I used coloring pencils and I started by hatching in the hair so I used a darker green this way the parrot green we did before looks like highlights in her hair. I also did all the skin details with a blue color pencil like her skin shadows and the lips inside of her eyes sclera. I blended it all up and this was how it turned out in the end.

Tbh Mixed media is just a nice way to use a bunch of mediums with different textures to showcase your artwork uniquely. I loved painting this character in my style. Hopefully will be doing this more often now.

Thank you for your precious time and support ❤
