Nicolas Bourbaki

Hi everyone! 👋🏼

This is my first time posting here. (Not really sure if I'm allowed to 🫠)

My name is Theodora. I love drawing like many of you do. I want to share a drawing I made about 3 to 4 weeks ago.

It's a drawing of Nicolas Bourbaki, the head bishop of Dema from the Twenty-one Pilots lore. It's a drawing that's supposed to accompany another drawing--a drawing of Tyler Joseph, which I'll post some other time. I wanted to draw him because I mistook the theme of a competition I wanted to enroll in and when I almost finished I discovered that my drawing didn't match the theme of the competition. I didn't have enough time to restart or get inspired to draw something else so I just left it. I thought the real theme was dull and I just couldn't come up with anything.

That aside, I enjoyed drawing Nico because I learnt to be patient with myself. Sometimes, I just rush into things and expect them to work out immediately but the opposite of my expectations usually happens. It's my first time drawing a veiled person and I was like, "it's so ugly", without even finishing first. It was messed up and I lost the motivation to continue for sometime before I remembered what someone special said, "The beauty is in the process." I continued after that and was patient with myself and was making progress.

Even though it's not so hyperrealistic, I still love this drawing. It reminds me of Tyler Joseph and his fear and insecurities and mine too. And how much progress were making defeating them in our lives.

These are some of the process shots:

The medium I used is charcoal and graphite. The paper size is 16 by 11.

Thanks for staying with me 💓

Peace 🫰🏼
