Today I want to share with you a profile I made of a woman from the 20s. It was an interesting drawing to do, because I had never tried to draw a fabric with transparency, and I think it's not so bad. Next, I'll share with you the process. Here we go!

El día de hoy quiero compartir con ustedes un perfil que hice de una mujer de los años 20. Fue un dibujo interesante de hacer, porque nunca había intentado dibujar una tela con transparencia, y considero que no está tan mal. A continuación, les comparto el proceso, ¡vamos allá!

I started drawing a circle as a base and then sketched the important elements of the face: eyes, nose, mouth, and chin. It is influential to take into account the angle, which in this case is a profile. To sketch the eye, I used an oval, a straight line for the septum of the nose, another oval for the base of the nose, and a curved line for the nostril. I also added a pair of circles for the upper and lower lips. Finally, another circle for the chin of the face.
Next, I traced the outline of the face.
Then I began to draw the garment in her hair, remembering the volume of it. This garment is slightly loose, so the volume will be a little more noticeable, with folds in the fabric.
Comencé a dibujar un círculo como base y seguidamente bosquejé los elementos importantes del rostro: ojos, nariz, boca y mentón. Es considerable tener en cuenta el ángulo, que en este caso es un perfil. Para bosquejar el ojo, utilicé un óvalo, una línea recta para el tabique de la nariz, otro óvalo para la base de la nariz, una línea curva para la fosa nasal, un par de círculos para el labio superior e inferior, y finalmente otro círculo para el mentón del rostro.
Acto seguido, tracé el contorno del rostro.
Luego comencé a dibujar la prenda que tiene en su cabello, recordando el volumen de la misma. Esta prenda está ligeramente suelta, por lo que el volumen será un poco más notorio, con pliegues en la tela.

I continued sketching the other elements of the drawing, such as her hair, her body, her clothes, and her necklace.
I also gave “color” to the lips and eye. It is interesting to draw these elements because it is a recreation of a woman from the 20s/30s, and the makeup was quite interesting and dramatic, especially the eyes, which were very dark, and the eyebrows, which were very thin.
Seguí bosquejando los demás elementos del dibujo como su cabello, su cuerpo, su ropa y collar.
También di “color” a los labios y el ojo. Es interesante dibujar estos elementos porque es una recreación de una mujer de los años 20/30, y el maquillaje era bastante interesante y dramático, sobre todo por los ojos que eran muy oscuros y las cejas que eran muy delgadas.

With my fingers, I blurred the whole drawing. I do this to “lighten” the sketch as the drawing loses that whiteness; it's something I use to make it less intimidating to draw.
I started by giving strokes to darken the hair, all in the same direction.
Furthermore, I also started to give shadows where necessary: above the eyes, under the nose, under the neck, under the hair strands, and the shadow cast by the hair garment.
Con mis dedos, difuminé todo el dibujo. Yo hago esto para “aclarar” el boceto a la vez que el dibujo pierde esa blancura, es algo que me sirve para que resulte menos intimidante el dibujar.
Comencé por dar trazos para oscurecer el cabello, todos en la misma dirección.
También comencé a dar sombras donde fuera necesario: arriba de los ojos, debajo de la nariz, debajo del cuello, debajo de los mechones del cabello, y la sombra proyectada por la prenda del cabello.

The garment on the head has transparency, so I decided to represent it by giving a slight darkness in what would be the contour of the head and hair.
Then, on top, I began to draw the details of the hat, starting with the ruffles it has, which I represented with wavy lines.
La prenda que tiene en la cabeza, posee transparencia, por lo que decidí representarla dando una ligera oscuridad en lo que sería el contorno de la cabeza y el cabello.
Luego, por encima, comencé a dibujar los detalles del sombrero, comenzando por los olanes que posee, los cuales representé con líneas onduladas.

With free strokes, I began to draw the patterns that adorned the garment she was wearing. I did not make them faithful to the reference; I simply let the pencil flow. Then, I drew some leaves, as if it were the embroidery of a vine and flowers.
I also detailed the clothes a little better, adding folds, and gave shadows where necessary, like on the stones of the necklace and between the clothes and the arm.
Con trazos libres, comencé a dibujar los patrones que adornaban la prenda que ella llevaba. No los hice fieles a la referencia, simplemente dejé que el lápiz fluyera. Luego, dibujé algunas hojitas, como si del bordado de una enredadera y flores se tratase.
También detallé un poco mejor la ropa, añadiendo pliegues, y di sombras donde fuera necesario, como en las piedras del collar y entre la ropa y el brazo.
Finally, I gave one more coat of graphite, darkening in the areas where I felt I should, such as the hair, eye, and lips.
This is a somewhat quick drawing, but I liked the finish. Also, I was really struck by the 20s aesthetic, especially the makeup, even if it is a bit complicated to represent.

Finalmente, di una capa más de grafito, oscureciendo en las zonas donde sentía que debía, como los mechones de cabello, ojo y labios.
Este es un dibujo un tanto rápido, pero a mí me gustó el acabado. Además, me llamó mucho la atención la estética de los años 20, sobre todo el maquillaje, aunque sea un poco complicado de representar.
