Drawing and Poetry | "Cafe" - Third Drawing In My "Saudade" Series of Poetry Art

in Sketchbook5 months ago

This is the third drawing in my new series of poetry art, "Saudade." If you missed the first and second drawings, you can find them here:

I decided to include eight drawings along with their accompanying poems. While I've completed all the poems, I still need to come up with ideas for the drawings 😅

🎨 The Drawing & The Poem 🎨

The first two drawings depict two characters: the first poem centers on an elderly man who raised an orphan boy, and the second poem focuses on the orphan, now a grown and mysterious man. The third poem continues the story of the mysterious man, as well as introducing an unnamed woman character. Titled "Cafe," the poem is accompanied by a drawing of the mysterious man and his female friend in a cafe.

Though it may seem complex, each poetry art piece in the "Saudade" series is interconnected, forming a continuous narrative inspired by both real events and fictional elements. Unlike prose, which provides detailed descriptions, my poetry captures significant moments and underlying emotions, highlighting what truly matters in these snippets of life of the three characters - the elderly man, the orphan boy or the mysterious man, and the woman who is in love with the mysterious man.

Here are the progress photos of the drawing...

Here's the first draft of the poem from my book. As you can see, the initial version was slightly longer than the completed one. After editing it a few times, I decided to remove the last part:

you speak in measured tones
your words succinct and precise
never lingering than necessary
every sentence is like a closed door.

I would probably reuse this sentence in one of my future poems 😅

I'm using the first-person pronoun, but it doesn't mean the narrator is me! 😆. Using "I" instead of "she" feels more personal and vulnerable.

📝 The Poem - "Cafe" 📝

I sit across from you,
watching your eyes dart over the menu.
The aroma of freshly brewed coffee
mingles with the scent of sizzling bacon,
soft murmurs of conversation,
and the clinking of silverware
around us.
Yet all I hear is deafening silence.
Our interactions remain transactional,
even on the days when I wear my heart on my sleeve,
words flowing freely,
circumnavigating your walls—
impenetrable to all but yourself.
