Hey, Y'all!
Hello, Sketchbook Community, and welcome back to emanate artworx. Today, I'm excited to share the third of four beach themed paintings I made earlier this year. As bananzell pointed out, I haven't been posting my works very frequently these days, so here ya go! 🤠
This one is referenced from a beach in Spain I found on unsplash. The softness of the sky colors and the contrast between light and dark looked like it would make a good painting study. I added the paraglider at the end as a way to add a little bit of interest. What a great view of the sunset from up there!

Getting the colors to transition smoothly with the paint was actually pretty tricky. But there were no mulligans on this one, and the end result was pretty satisfying. This study was a very good way to practice the challenge of smooth color blending!
I started by making soft pinkish colors for the overall scene background and then added layers of light blues and yellows to get the sky worked in. The horizon was a stripe of light blue for the water.
Next, I worked mid blues into the sky edges and mid blue and light blue for the waves of the ocean and the beach. Finally, I added dark blues and violets to make the rocks on the edges and also for the beach. As the very last step, I made the details: the moon, the paraglider, and the little flock of birds flying by in the distance.
Like many other activities, painting landscapes (beach-scapes?) takes a lot of practice to become proficient. I feel like I got one 👶 👣 baby step closer to proficiency with this 4-part series, and I'm very glad I am able to share it here with everyone, so thank you for joining me on this art journey.
Thanks for reading! Until next time,
Ema
The paraglider and the birds are a creative addition. It’s the right artistic touch to finish it. I wouldn’t have thought to add something like that but I guess that’s why you’re the artist:)
I was a little stumped at first on how to make it different from the reference! But being patient paid off. Thanks, Zology : )
The sunset gives the water extremely colours, beautifully captured!
Thank you so much! This was a very good exercise to learn how to blend colors better. : )
Wow such a beautiful work Ema🤩. You are really good at traditional drawings. Show us more hehe
Aww, thanks!! That makes me smile. Yes, there will be more to come! 😌
Great to hear ☺️
Beaches are my favorite places to go, and this art really creates the beauty of it.
🧡 That is a great compliment, thank you. : )
