General to specific drawing #5 - Beat arachnophobia

in Sketchbook2 years ago

Hello again!

As I decided last time, I chose something awful (to me) as a model to practice. I've got arachnophobia, so the choice was obvious. The search itself was already difficult ;) Even the photos made me shiver.

I know, that spiders are very useful creatures, but disgust is stronger than intellect. It's an atavistic unconditioned reflex.

Meet my model 😖. First draw.

And guess what; something strange happend. While drawing, I gradually stopped seing awful creature. There left only colours, shadow and light.

The negative context disappeared, as if all my beliefs had fled. What was left was an objective "something." It seems that all the advice like: be an objective observer, don't name what you draw, focus on shapes and colors, makes sense!
