Inktober 2021, Day 14: Tick

Tick - Ink drawing, paper size 21x16 cm, drawing size 9x6 cm, 2021

Boom! With this post, I am completing two weeks of Inktober and two weeks of posting every single day! Yay! As long as I maintain my rhythm and process, I am confident I can pull off the other two weeks and the three days as well. However, I am running on two cups of insanely strong coffee a day only to stay awake the number of hours I need to work on this. I don’t feel this is healthy or sustainable for me for longer than a month. I am impressed with people who can do this for extended periods. They probably have some superpowers!

Tick was the theme of the day. After thinking about all kinds of ticks for a while, I arrived at ticking bombs. And since last year I already created CS:GO inspired artwork for one of the prompts, I thought why not give it a shot and work on the C4 bomb from the game. After some sketching about, and not knowing how exactly to go about it, at a certain angle the countdown display looked like a mouth to me, which is when I decided to give the animated bomb character a go. There certainly are other cartoony bombs out there, but this one’s my attempt at it. I think it turned out pretty cute.

My C4 is having a giggle session and holds its button belly with its wire hands. I also added a little heart blinker/ticker on it instead of the regular round light indicator. It made more sense since the bomb is alive. I mostly lined it using Pigma Micron fine liner 03 and used the brush pen only at the outer outline to have a bit more thickness there. The shading was done with Diamine jet black drawing ink. I used the red watercolor on the rosy cheeks and the heart and the white Gelly Roll fine liner 08 on the highlights and the pattern of the notes.

The drawing itself is tiny, and I have to say, sometimes it is harder to work on such tiny pieces than the big ones. There is only so much space on it. Every detail counts and is immediately visible. I took it extremely slow since my hands are not always the best at not shaking.

It looks so happy, right?

Thank you for stopping by and checking out my creations. See you tomorrow as week 3 starts!

Posting everyday is quite a feat. We'll done!
This one I excellent. makes sense what you said about the challenge of smaller drawings. The details are awesome though. Very realistic.

I am used to a more relaxed approach when it comes to posting but at the same time I am surprised that I have not collapsed in a ball of misery somewhere in the corner. Maybe because I don't have time for that either xD

Thank you! Getting those lines in sometimes feels like defusing a bomb, have to be so careful as one misstep can land the work in the trash can, luckily that did not happen.

You've got quite some powerful skills in drawing. Keep it up.

Woah thank you so much! That is quite a compliment! Every day spent on creative works is path to progress. I hope to improve with time even more :)

Oh M! I so admire you for your stick with it fortitude to not only post every day this month but to draw too! Hope that coffee is supercharged, and I still am giggling from the little dose of whimsy you put on C4, a belly button indeed, lol lol! Its malevolent little teeth are delightful!

Ahaha! I am so glad it made you laugh! Belly button? Button belly! :D It was so fun to work on something so silly.

Well I wouldn't think it possible, but you somehow made a bomb cute. There may be no limit to your cute-powers.

I'm not sure if it was the more rural dialect of English, or just a quirk of his own speech, but I almost never heard my grandfather say the word "heart," no, that thing ticking along inside him was always his ticker. Come to think of it, it may have been a dark joke about his ill health and looming moribundity... anyway, I think it's a cute way to say it, morbid as it may seem, and especially given its purpose, I think it's fitting that your cute little C4 explosive has a tiny ticker of its own. ^_^

Maybe the bomb of the cute is only exploding in laughter...

Aww, thank you for sharing the story about your grandfather and his ticker, guess we were thinking on the same wave about the heart being that :)

Are you introducing your teddy to this tiny bomb monster thingy, kitty? :)
